Brian Burke is much better at promoting Brian Burke than he is at building a winning NHL team.
Great self promoter. Average GM.

this couldn't be better for the Canucks, if the firing did have to do with him following his principles on those long term deals (which is admirable) than it can open a bidding war between the Leafs/Florida now

RT @DarrenDreger: Timing of Burke dismissal very odd. He and all brass were at Marlies game last night in Hamilton. Truth will surface. Something fishy.

If I'm Luongo I would simply not choose to waive my NTC and hedge my time for a buyout within the next two years so he could be UFA. It would be difficult to go to Toronto knowing the GM got fired for not wanting to trade for you. If he fails there which is verly likely considering that's what the Leafs do there are going to be more knives than there were in Vancouver.

The Phaneuf deal is an obvious one
I like the trade that got them Lombardi and Franson for next to nothing, Franson has huge potential IMO and has proved it at the NHL level.
J.M. Liles for a second looks pretty good
To add I think the Schenn trade will work out for both teams, the Leafs are much better off with JVR instead of Schenn. Also at the time of the deal Versteeg for a first second and third was a good trade

Certainly Kadri's gone, but how extreme could it go?
Rielly?

Rielly and Gardiner would be there only untouchables I imagine
I would be shocked if the Canucks got one of them

I actually wouldn't mind seeing him on the tele'...I think he's more credible than Mike Milbury or Pierre McGuire. That may not be saying much, though.

With that contract and the new Luongo rule, you might get a bidding war, but you still aren't getting the farm.

haha, how terrifying must this be for Leaf fans. Not so much that Burke is gone but, if the rumours are true, that the ownership wanted Luongo so bad that they'd fire the GM over it. Vancouver almost has them over a barrel now, I'm sure some horrible overpayment is impending.

I think more Canadian sports media people would be chirping new MLSE owners for Burke firing if they didn't all work for those same owners.

Sad but true.

As has been mentioned 1000x times
Luongo has said he would waive it, doesn't want to do wrong by the Canucks
but even if it comes to it
Luongo won't except a trade to _____, then the Canucks Waive him and he gets picked up by the team in 30th instantly

The Panthers aren't idiots. They had Luigi before and they would not want him again, no matter how persistent his wife is. Markstrom is 10 times the goalie Luigi is.

This is probably bad news for the Flames, I bet the Canucks are asking for a ridiculous package like Gardiner, Bozek and a first or something and the Leafs are probably willing to fork it over.

I don't expect it, and the Luongo Rule as explained by LeBrun isn't bad at all unless he retires in the next 5 years (which he won't)
but they level of young player they get back, probably just went up
no one expects the farm or a teams top prospect
