A couple of hours after the last child left, a knock came on his door. It was a frantic mother who had heard that some children had taken refuge there. She was looking for her little boy.
Her face looked frozen in terror, Rosen said, breaking down in tears.
She thought maybe a miracle from God would have the child at my house, he said. Later, I looked at the casualty list ... and his name was on it.

this has been the first mass shooting that has really hit me emotionally. Aurora, Wisconsin, older ones like VA Tech or Columbine, never really connected with me. but these are just kids, the same age as my niece. the horrors that the survivors witnessed and the immeasurable pain that the parents of the slain are feeling is just unfathomable. suck a ####ing waste

One thing I hadn't really thought about to this point but even discounting all the adults for the moment, there are going to be a lot of really, really emotionally scarred young children let alone the dead. Such an impressionable age to go through something like this. There are many more child victims than the death toll may indicate.

From the article above..
Quote:
And one little boy brought them all a moment of levity.
‘‘This little boy turns around, and composes himself, and he looks at me like he had just removed himself from the carnage and he says, ‘Just saying, your house is very small,'’’ Rosen said. ‘‘I wanted to tell him, ‘I love you. I love you.'’’

I hope these kids, especially the ones who saw things can still be okay and not be effected to much by this, bounce back. To go through such a trauma...

Also there's the aspect of how many marriages are ruined after the death of a child. The lives of the parents and siblings of the kids who were murdered are forever altered in a horrific way. While the list of casualties is at 26, the number of lives affected is much, much larger.

You'd be surprised then, you really would. It's not as hard as you make it out to be, you are equating lack of incidences in North American culture with lack of ability. Your point just isn't valid because it's not as hard as you think it is, inexperienced militias are doing it in the desert with $20. The most complicated thing they have is 2 wires and a battery, the reality is the fact that they are so ridiculously easy to make is a huge problem for the U.S. military. If someone in the desert can do it with limited resources so can anyone with $50 and a canadian tire. I'd post some videos of how destructible they can be, maybe later, gotta study for finals

Considering how long desert militia have been at war, I wouldn't exactly call them inexperienced. This isn't their first giddyup. They've been at this a very long time. The whole 'well they'll just build bombs' bit is just a red herring.

his point is you couldn't teach someone to build a bomb in 5 hours, without getting into detail the fact is you can. For obvious reasons I can't be teaching you guys to build bombs on the internet but it's not as complex as you think. The materials needed and the formulas required are more simple than making christmas dinner, but anyways I'd like to leave it at polak is right so that I don't get in trouble and so we don't derail this thread. Can we please just leave it alone now.

If the Times Square bomber or the underwear bomber or the shoe bomber had used guns, they would have each probably killed dozens of people. As is, they killed a grand total of zero. Making a bomb may not be difficult, but there's a much better chance of failure for the would be killer with a bomb than there would be with a gun.

That's the difference. Guns allow people to rage at an instant. By controlling guns better, you would at least cut down on those types of crimes.
And part of the psychopathy behind these mass murders is the desire for face-to-face retribution. I'm not convinced that these people would necessarily just choose bombs instead. They would probably still go for guns, but if they were at least harder to get and less powerful, those would be helpful safeguards.

Do you know who owns more than a 6% stake in the maker of .223 Bushmaster rifles, like the one used last Friday to murder 20 first graders and seven adults in Newtown, Connecticut?
California public schoolteachers.

What's interesting (well sad, extremely sad) is this is the first event that has actually moved polls towards more gun control.
I'm guessing the teachers union won't be owning 6% of it for much longer.
Had a bit of an awkward conversation with my 6 year old daughter today as I dropped her off at school and she asked why the "flag was only half way up the pole". It's been a tough couple of days dropping her off to tell you the truth. I make myself feel a bit better by realizing every classroom in her school has a back door outside.

Sure it's easy to build a bomb. It's not easy to build a bomb that works the way you want it to and it's also not easy to build a small bomb that will do large scale mass damage in open areas or large rooms. Vest bombs etc tend to get those within a couple of feet and nothing more.
