Yankees would likely have to eat close to $70 million in salary on top of that.

The ARod talks are so premature. I don't see him going anywhere.
Turns out relief pitching is a small sample size and doesn't mean Lincecum is somehow over the hump of his god awful season. Struggling early, Giants have Zito for Game 5. They need to come back tonight.

Cardinals wasting a lot of opportunities here.
Good to be up but should be up a lot more than they are.

Looks like a replay of the 2005 World Series.
Hopefully the Tigers can win it this time. Verlander deserves a ring.

I don't like Zito's chances of bringing the series back to SF.
STL will enjoy home field advantage in the WS (4 Giants had a great all-star game, including the disgraced Melky).

The All Star system is still the worst.

It's not worse that alternating every year, or basing it on wins when teams play different schedules. I like it.

It's not worst then the only other horrible scenario..Sorry to come off snarky, I just think it's so idiotic to have a team work all year to have the best record and lose out on it because an exhibition game where last place teams have representatives.

How does Lynn get another start after the garbage he threw up in game 2?
The Giants handed the series to the Cards on a silver platter and it appears the Cards are going to hand it right back. If you can't get 10+ runs against Zito in the first few innings I am not sure you deserve to go to the World Series.

The Giants have won the last 12 games that Zito has started. In those 12 games the most runs he gave up for his entire start was 4. In those 12 games Zito is 7-0 and he won the last 5 games in the regular season He had three terrible starts all year, and was decent to excellent in the others. He won 15 games this season. Other than that, your hyperbole is outstanding.

Those 3 starts must have been awful to boost up his ERA to where it finished.
He is a once good pitcher with little to no talent and shouldn't be an issue for a team that wants to go to the World Series to beat.

He had a 4.15 ERA for the year. It's his second lowest in his tenure with the Giants and 8th best (6th worst, since you're a pessimist) out of his 13 total seasons. Obviously he was much better in Oakland, of which I don't think anyone is debating. As for this year, his 15 wins are tied for 13th in the NL. 16 wins would have tied him for 6th. The only Cardinals to have more wins than him this year were Lohse and Lynn. He only had 8 losses on the year. It's not like he's in the Cy Young discussion, but he's been a good pitcher all year and has been outstanding since August 7th. Congrats on focusing on the ERA and not the fact that it's the 13th straight game that the Giants have won with Zito starting, where he is 8-0. You should probably hit the panic button really hard and often.
The Reds had the second best record in baseball and didn't beat him in the playoffs. The Cardinals are an excellent team and didn't beat him in the playoffs. It's not like they are facing a AAA guy. Anyone starting in an LCS is a good pitcher and isn't likely to give up 10+ runs (your stats) in a few innings.

I am not sure why you are focusing on wins so much. Awesome the team won when he pitched that tells us about 0 about his actual ability or what he did in those games.
Cardinals should be able to easily beat him if they want to go to World Series but they appear to not care all that much as shown by their pathetic effort tonight. Not sure it will matter much because if this is the best the Cards have to offer then the Tigers will be easily walking away with the Title this year anyways.

Using a pitchers W-L records is incredibly short sighted, using the teams record when he pitches is even worst. ERA is outdated as a stat to begin with, Zito's numbers were simply not that good, because he's not that good of a pitcher. He's had an average season, he got through some early struggles early tonight and pitched well.

Nope, not possible flames in 07, any team that cared would light Zito up.
