Some people forget to read when it involves a precious Flame's prospect. If this was a Canuck he'd already be raked over the coals but since it's a Flame's prospect innocent until proven guilty is the motto. He's a d-bag if the allegations are true and I hope he's a failure.
Isn't that how it's supposed to work in the first place?

Why mock us for assuming innocence until proven otherwise?
You're saying if this was a Canuck we'd think otherwise? Well, duh. Welcome to a hockey rivalry. I can only hope my rival teams lose a prospect of Ferland's calibre.

This statement is what I don't understand. Why even type it before we know the truth? Are you hoping he's proven guilty?
What if the Flames had given up on MacInnis and Fleury when they faced their troubles?
We already have a couple players who have been found guilty of drinking and driving. Nobody is a saint. Mistakes are made, especially at Ferland's age.
Let's instead be supportive of a prospect on our favorite team until we're told we should feel otherwise. I don't understand the other side of this argument.
To those saying it's a "boys will be boys" situation or no big deal. Do you guys know how serious an aggravated assault charge is, if it sticks? You guys are making it sound like he got a fighting in public ticket or something. Aggravated assault is pretty damn serious, and it was likely much more than a drunken bar scuffle with another patron for those charges.
I'm not comparing these circumstances at all, but for reference, those guys that beat that guy in the beltline to within an inch of his life (he will likely never recover) were charged with aggravated assault.

Something tells me that both situations will not be held with the same regard.
Umm tough 20 year old kid who knows how to throw down and is an enforcer on the ice. I think it would be unlikely not expect him to show some of those same attributes off the ice.
I have never once said I was against fighting, it has it's place in the game. I just happen to know that if you are a 20 year old who is know as a fighter on the ice, it's likely you will be off the ice.
First because you know you are tough and will have that attitude to protect the people with you (article said he was with family) and second because when you are a known tough guy at 20 other drunk idiots will be searching you out at a bar looking for a fight.
Every facepalm .gif in the world doesn't do this post justice.

He maintains his innocence, I hope he is in fact innocent. If not I hope he is appropriately punished, learns from it, and moves on with his life/career.

I know, but I was just providing another example of an aggravated assault charge.
I may be out to lunch, and maybe someone more in tune with the law can weigh in, but I believe aggravated assault charges are usually given where someone goes WAY overboard. Like two guy fighting, one goes down out cold and the guy stomps his face a bunch of times, or smashes someone over the head with a chair when they're down, That kind of stuff.
I guess my point is just that people keep speaking about it like it was just a good old drunken bar fight between two willing combatants, and even though we obviously don't have all the facts, I just believe there's no way they would have given him an aggravated assault charge unless he went way overboard and didn't something really dangerous.
Aggravated assault (section 268) requires the alleged perpetrator "wounds, maims, disfigures or endangers the life of the complainant".
Wounding is not defined, so can be pretty broad. I.e. a broken orbital bone...

for a player who's on track to be a professional athlete you would definitely expect some more discipline and control.
This is definitely bad news as a flames fan, as it's hard to imagine this not impacting the player's development and mindset coming into a relatively important camp.
Hopefully, this ends up being a blip on the radar, and not something of a habit.
"It upset me to hear that someone might have been hurt and I am embarrassed by these accusations but I trust the court process and look forward to having this situation behind me as soon as possible," Ferland said.
I hope that the allegations are false and Ferland can move forward with his life/career, but if he is in fact guilty I hope they throw the book at him.
