I can't believe Hoodbine or Hoodlands or Canyon Ghettos didn't make it into the top hoods list.

perhaps this is some type of intelligence test; however, i was unable to find the complete list from 2012 on the website - I am assuming that New Brighton was somewhere between 6 and 16?

I am stunned that Dover Estates did not make the top 10 - although given teh residents quiet nature, i am not suprised they wanted to keep thier piece of paradise a secret

tanning - access to outdoors is all that is required, not a 'lake'
girl watching - girls are everywhere. don't need a lake to do that.
fishing - i'll take the bow river over a small dirty lake.
boating - seriously? you don't boat on arbour lake, you simply float around.

the lake is about twice the size of the rona at crowfoot for pete's sake. i've seen larger puddles in parking lots. if your opinion is that it sets arbour lake above the rest, i humbly disagree.

Well I'm sorry you think it's important in life to impress people. Pretty sure most residents of lake communities value having fun at a lake versus impressing people with said lake. But anyway, Hawkwood and Arbour Lake are pretty much the same distance from anything in the city and share the same amenities, except Arbour Lake has a lake, which makes it objectively better in spite of what you think.

Have fun skating on your crappy community rink while I'm zipping along on a 1.8km loop around Lake Bonavista a la a Norman Rockwell painting.

Tanning/girl watching - yes this can be done in your backyard and if you're luckier than me your backyard has numerous 19 year-old girls running around in bikinis. If not, to the lake you must go.

Floating around on a lake on a stand-up surfboard/row boat/paddle boat is a lot more fun than not doing that.

Fishing at a river may be fun, but it's a PITA for most people. With a lake community you just walk across the street. The lakes are very clean, btw. Not sure about the rest, but Lake Bonavista is filled with city water.

Bowness has more community spirit than any other community in Calgary. Everyone knows their neighbors (who could just as easily be living in multi-million dollar river front estates or across the street in low income housing) and come together for events all through the year. The second day of Stampede they have their own parade. This coming weekend is the Bowness Street Festival. Also many many of Calgarys best musicians live there meaning there is a plethora of shows and jams to go to. It is as old as Calgary itself, and although now part of the city it still feels like being its own small town, with the convenience of Calgary only five minutes away.

When was the last time you spent any time down in the hood?

Especially in Calgary. However, I will say that I live down the road from a bass player whos toured with Ray Charles, among others.

I don't think I know too many musicians who got into music for the money, but it's definitely nice to make some now and again.

i don't need to look for 19 year olds, i'm too old for immature stuff like that. but, girls are everywhere, even in skimpy clothing.

seriously, i can think of a hundred things i'd rather be doing than paddle boating on a pond. stand-up surfboard? is there anything more gay than that?

also, fishing a small pond that is stocked with one kind of fish, is not fishing, imo.

Why would anyone wanna skate around a 1.8km loop? Most people wanna go out and play hockey, or skate around a rink. Numerous (All?) communities have rinks, with boards and flood lighting to accommodate. But you do have a 1.8km loop!

You can have your long board. I'll do a river float with beer and get out at my house. Lots of Bikinis here too...or running on the path...or in the parks.
