Yup ....hockey is the furthest thing from the mind of Tim Thomas though....
The 1st amendment protects you from prosecution or the making of a law preventing you from speaking your mind. It is not a mind erasing umbrella that makes you 100% immune from the consequences of what you say and it definitely doesn't say your corporation is immune from outrage or a drop in business as a result of your executives saying stupid things.

People who immediately bring up the 1st amendment whenever there is some sort of backlash against what someone says are dumb. Read what it says for the love of god.

I'm religious, and I do not support gay marriage. I'm also Canadian, so it's legal here.

But, I will not EVER put anyone down for ANYTHING. Fat, Gay, any race, any culture, any religion, any belief, I dont CARE what you are if YOU are nice to ME, I WILL be nice to YOU.

Thomas should just retire. I thought he was classy.

"the Baptist Press that his company supported "the biblical definition of the family unit."

The bible also teaches us to respect our fellow man no matter his belief. But I guess he didn't get past Genesis.

This is actually quite frustrating... it really is.

Tim Thomas will always be a hero in my eyes for beating the Canucks but what a major ######bag he's become since winning the cup.

I'm a little behind on my bible studies. What is the biblical definition of marriage exactly. Chapter and verse please . A bumper sticker explanation won't cover it.

Genesis 1:27, 28
Genesis 2:22-24
Matthew 19: 4-9

These should explain it. 2:22-24 shows the first marriage.

The other two explain it.

Source: This explains basically everything biblical about marriage. Everything from adultery to the structure of a family.

http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/1...marriage&p=par

^ That, that could cause an argument. Please, people, this is just to help someone else who wants to learn more about this stuff. Not trying to preach. Just helping out.

He answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”
-Matthew 19:4-6 (ESV)

You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.
-Leviticus 18:22 (ESV)

Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
-1 Corinthians 6:9-11 (ESV)

There is many more verses that talk about homosexuality. Today's society seems to think this is something new but if you read the bible you will see it has been practiced by many cultures for thousands of years. The bible says that homosexuality is a sin just like lying, cheating, using the lords name in vain or being a drunkard.

Have any more questions on theology? I would be happy to answer.

I think the bible is a crock. It has been changed so many times I highly doubt it is the word of "God" at all. To many contradictions in it, even between the Old and New Testament which I won't get into here. I believe in a higher power but I doubt a lot of what is in that book is truly God's will. I won't defend this position either so no one bother replying please. I am not trying to open a can of worms I just think everyone should be afforded the same rights and I doubt if God's true will is to deny certain groups of people happiness.

“‘And you must not lie down with a male+ the same as you lie down with a woman.+ It is a detestable thing.

That's the proper translation.... not to be arrogant.

Anyways.

I have no problem on a personal level with him expressing his opinion and stance, even if I do not agree with it. However, Thomas isn't making a wise decision to constantly express it while still being an "active" member of an NHL franchise. He seems like a sharp enough guy to know his actions affect both his career and the Boston Bruins, so I can't understand why he continues to spout off.

Wait until you actually retire, then you can say whatever you want, whenever and wherever you want.

Anyway, support *for* equality has been steadily rising for the most part over the years.

I can't stand so-called "libertarians" who try to restrict the rights of minorities. They are among my least favourite people. I do like people who hit Henrik Sedin on the other hand... Seriously though, I find Tim Thomas' politics so distasteful that I hope he never returns to the NHL and simply fades into obscurity. Great goalie. Annoying guy.

My biggest issue is that he uses his 'celebrity' status, his public, professional Facebook page, to make these statements--and then when asked about those statements, he claims that they are a "private matter" that he doesn't care to speak about.

You can't have it both ways, Timmy. You want to use your status to get your opinion out there? You can't complain when someone wants to ask you about it.

The bible also says that women can be made from ribs and the sun was pretty much turned on like a lightswitch. Do you know how large my harem would be if I could make women out of ribs?
