Another Revis holdout imminent?

When we last heard from Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis, he was refusing to answer whether he would show up to the start of training camp. With the Jets’ veterans set to report in ten days, we still don’t know whether Revis will be there.

But there seems to be plenty of doubt around the NFL about whether Revis is willing to show up to camp on time without a raise, with Chris Mortensen saying on ESPN Radio that it will be a surprise if Revis is there on Day One.

Revis’s status for 2012 has been a question almost from the day he ended his previous holdout and signed his current contract in 2010. That four-year contract was structured to pay Revis most of the money over the first two years of the deal, and Revis said that if he kept playing like one of the top cornerbacks in football for the first two years of the deal, he’d expect the Jets to give him a raise. Now Revis has held up his end of it by continuing to play like one of the top cornerbacks in football.

The Jets, however, are probably going to be a lot less willing to re-do Revis’s deal than they were two years ago. There reaches a point when a team simply has to tell a player that he’s going to have to play under the contract he agreed to, and the Jets may have decided that that point with Revis is now.

And if that’s the case, this could be a protracted problem for a team that has insisted it needs to eliminate off-field distractions.

Absolutely great player but this guy has to have some of the worst advisers in the world. Maybe the Jets got Tebow to play corner in case this happens.

I'm not shocked at all this since Ozzie Newsome and Pat Moriarty get it done at the last minute yet again, Ray Rice has signed a 5 year deal worth $40 million, $17 million guaranteed, $25 million in the first two years.

Reading that Ray Rice broke down in tears after he signed his contract made me choke up, as he kept his promise to his mom that she wouldn't have to work no more after he made it in the NFL. Say all you want but Ray Rice is one of the very few true good guys still around in a league full of jerks.

Remember when the Cowboys made the steal of the draft when they got Dez? Yeah there was a reason he fell so far down people's draft boards. Oklahoma State WRs haven't exactly had a good track record of late. Shoving his own mama? Just a little self-restraint maybe? Either way, bringing up Dez always allows the mention of Jeff Ireland (how does he still have a job again?) asking Dez at the draft combine if he's mom was a prostitute.

Blackmon needs to watch himself. 2nd DUI in 3 years points to alcoholism. If he isn't an alcoholic, he should still avoid it as it's obviously doing more harm than good.

If I remember correctly the worst part of that was a video of Blackmon in jail saying something to the effect of he's not a drinker. Of course the first step in solving a problem is admitting it.

Honestly, he should get 10 for being a complete idiot. Professional athletes have absolutely no excuses for getting DUIs.

In an emotional 911 call, the mother of Dallas Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant can be heard telling friends that her son “tried to kill me” and that she’s going to “put an end to it today.”

Angela D. Bryant told police that her son hit her across the face with a ball cap, pulled her hair, tore her shirt and bra, and repeatedly struck her hands and wrists when she tried to push him away, according to records released Tuesday by the DeSoto Police Department.

“Babe, I can’t keep letting him do this. ... I can’t let him do me like this. I’m tired. I’m going to put an end to it today,” the 37–year-old woman can be heard telling someone else in the room during her call to 911.

Bryant surrendered to authorities Monday on a Class A misdemeanor warrant for assault with bodily injury and immediately posted bond. If convicted, he faces a fine of up to one year in jail and a $4,000 fine, as well as possible punishment under the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

“He won’t go home. I keep telling him to go home. He won’t go,” she tells the dispatcher as a man can be heard yelling in the background.


Angela Bryant later tells the dispatcher that her son has left in a white Pearl Lincoln Navigator with the license plate “BAILME.”

Angela Bryant told dispatchers that no one had been drinking or taking drugs and that her brother, son and a friend were present when the assault occurred.

When asked if anybody was armed with weapons, Angela Bryant replied “not yet” but said her son had picked up a ball and tried to hit her with it.

“And then he grabbed me. You’ll see when you get here how my clothes look,” she tells the dispatcher.

Those injuries, according to the affidavit, included swelling to the woman’s wrists and around her left thumb and bruising on her upper arms. Angela Bryant also complained of pain in her wrists, hands and arms and soreness in her chest from her son pushing her, the affidavit states.

“It’s pretty straightforward,” Smith said. “He and his mom got in an argument. It’s physical. She got some injuries. We made the arrest.”

Smith said he did not know what prompted the argument.
“Whatever led to it is really not an issue for us,” Smith said. “We have an injured person. We have a suspect. We’re going to move forward.”

For most sports I agree, but the NFL owners never show any respect towards players and as such I dont have a problem with players dont show any respect towards the owners. Its nothing personal, its just business.

Revis needs to do what he needs to do, at any time the Jets could cut him so he needs to capitalize on his hand of cards when he can.
