Really fun game. However:

1. There should be new unique properties specifically on legendary items of any level. That'll allow for unique builds - People will buy/find other items that revolve around 1 or more core legendary property. I think it spices the builds up and the search for items. Although I am content with a very low drop rate of legendary items, it isn't satisfying finding an item

2. The Real Money Auction House will eventually be the only place to trade. Gold seems to not have much value. I got rid of almost all of it for items. And to be quiet honest, I don't like Gold. I think it should only be item-item trading.

3. Overtime, everyone would have their character(s) geared up and the thirst to hunt for, or to buy, items will diminish. I thought about "Item Decay" but that is going to be so unpopular. What they should do is have something implemented that keeps people searching for items, even those who've the best gear imaginable. I can't think of what though yet - thats where you guys come in...

It's called PvP.

When the quest stands on the edge of a knife, even a slight advantage in stats that might not be noticeable will be the difference between winning and losing.

I've been farming all of Act I since I had 14k dps as a mage. So yeah, you're more than ready. If you want to stay away from Hydra kiting (boring!) and cheezy Whirlwind builds, try using Meteor (Star Pact)/Arcane Orb (Tap the Source)/Diamond Skin (Crystal Shell)/Teleport (Fracture)/Energy Armor (Force)/(free slot, I've used Blizzard/Familiar/Wave of Force/Frost Nova/etc). Use Glass Cannon, Critical Mass, Astral Presence for passives.

Use Meteor when the mobs don't see you yet, are in choke points, or converge upon you; as the first mob is about to reach you, hit Diamond Skin and then spam Meteor right in front of you, running only when out of mana or your Skin is about to expire. Use Orb as a quick turn-around blast when being chased, or send volleys of them into grouped and mobile mobs while you are waiting for Diamond Skin to refresh. Use Teleport/Fracture defensively when you are cornered or can't outrun, use it offensively in choke points by 'porting forward, then allowing your clones to gum up the pursuers whilst you drop Meteors on them.

The key is to get used to using Diamond Skin offensively - if you save it as an emergency tool to escape elites, you are wasting it. You want to always be channeling the mobs into kill zones and then blasting them with as much burst damage as you can when they are up in your face, and therefore not moving. Obviously some elites don't let you do this effectively, which is when you will be kiting them with Orbs. I've yet to find an affix set that can't be beaten. You just have to practice, learn the timing, learn how to reverse field in tight spots, and learn the movement patterns of the different mobs.

You can get reasonably cheap gear that increases your Arcane Power limit on Wizard Hat, Source, and Wand. Prioritize this, then equipment with Int/Critical Chance/Critical Damage, then, in order of importance, +AP on critical, Resist All, Armor, and lastly Vitality. I have around 15K hp, and it's more than enough with the Energy Armor and proper use of Diamond Skin. I started, as I said, with around 14k DPS and I was able to use this build to run every bit of content in Act I other than The Butcher - whom I started being able to beat around 20k DPS when I could do enough damage to kill him before the whole room filled with flames, and not because he was killing me on his own.

As mentioned, PvP along with new patches and expansions will keep the thirst going, or at least should if they do them right. With D2, the top tier items became more or less crap with the introduction of the expansion a year later, several years after that the top tier items became nothing compared to the new items that came out with 1.10 (some exceptions like the 1.08 shako and valor).

I also believe I heard that the patch that brings on the legendary buffs will also include special unique abilities with certain top tier ones, although not sure if that was a possibility or the plan.

For those that haven't found a legendary yet, be aware that they are VERY easy to overlook. The background colour is quite close to the damaged or cracked type drops and the worst part is the label can be very short like the following:

Axe
Ring
Belt

I found three legendaries tonight, and in the past have walked back over previously battled areas only to find that I had overlooked a dropped one (happened twice already) so again, be careful!

The naming is the same with the set items, but at least with them the green background stands out nicely.

I found my first set item last night, a Tal Rasha's chest piece. I have to say that after all this time playing, I was actually pretty excited to finally see that green name on the ground. And it is actually useful!

RMAH commodities are in as of the patch today it seems.

Have not had a chance to check it out beyond posting a Flawless Star Emerald for 5 bucks to see if it sells.

edit: Tweaked price since the average daily was dropping fast, and added a second one, sold instantly for $4.35 each ($7.39 after fees for roughly 4m in materials to craft) .

In retrospect that might have been a touch too low, since if I was to use one of those gold buying sites that they spam about, to buy the gold to make them it would cost me $4.40 to make each of them, so I guess lost about 99 cents in potential profit due to RMAH fees. Of course, since gold is dropping in price almost daily, if I wait a week I will probably be ahead.

Rathji, there isn't any real money to be made with gems. Breaking even can be tough.

BTW, further to my post on legendaries, of all the ones I have found (and set items), not ONE has been from an elite pack. Their tinkering with drops with NV I think screws up the possibility of a legendary dropping. Not that they are any good for the most part since not one of them is any higher than iLvl 62. The Oculus is one that can surpass a rare drop. Man they sure screwed that up. In D2, my ultimate goal was to collect one of every legendary/set piece (and continutally upgrade the best of each). In D3, why bother? They are junk... for the most part.

Still ticked that they nerfed MF, and I know there are dolts even on this board who don't get why MF is so key to the history and success of Diablo. Now they are even talking about putting up a cap on it. FFS.....they have already nerfed it to hell, what are they wanting to do, nerf it to inferno? LOL.

Yeah, I realized that today. The cut the AH takes kills all your profits and I had not considered that when I was doing my initial math.

I will still sell them in chat, just not in AH. Can undercut AH prices and still make 200k-400k profit unless books and gems go up too much. At worst case it is a way to sell the books and gems I find for top dollar.

I've found 2 in the last 24 hours as well. Wonder if they changed the rate of legendary drops. First one came from just a normal chest, a good roll Kymbo's gold worth about 1-2M and the second I was clearing out the crappy monsters surrounding a treasure goblin and the very last monster dropped me a Stormshield, good pre-determined rolls (26% block, 69 res, high armor and high block amount) but it's magic property sucked (corpse spider for witch doctors...) but still worth probably over 10M if I don't keep it.

How do you guys/gals normally price things on the AH? Do you just look at comparable items and undercut a bit? I'm finding a fair number of items doing this Witch Doctor tanking (I killed Skeleton King all by myself in Inferno!!) but I have no idea how much things are worth. What I think might be worth 100k might be worth 1 million.

Yeah you get a feel for these things, but a must is to look at your item, take the best 2 stats or 3 of you got something solid and search for slightly less stats and see what they price at.

say i have a item with 100 int, 100 vit, 50 all res, I would search on AH for 90 int, 90 vit, and 40 all res.

You want to undercut a decent bit, so say you find everyone around 200-400k for that range, sell for 150-180, quick sale and you can sell more since you are limited to 10 items.

People try to get as much as possible but soooo many auctions just expire that you have to understand the average price you find it always going to be higher than people are getting similar items for.

Quick sale is always the key.

On small sales, in the 10-100k range, for sure, so your auctions dont get clogged up

Above that you want to make sure you are priced fairly close, maybe 10% less at most, to the rest of the comparable items or you are just throwing money away.

Just to add to Thor's post, also make sure the stats you're using to search for similar items group together well (ideally with a class in mind). For example if you have an item with 100 strength, 100 intelligence and some other properties it may not be the best idea to search for 90 strength, 90 intelligence and whatever else because a barb doesn't care too much for intelligence and vice versa with the other classes so just search for 90 strength or 90 intelligence.

And just another point, searching for items with a bit less stats is a good idea for everything except for certain perfect rolls. For example if you got an item with 20% magic find along with the other properties I would definitely search for 20% magic find items as a base and not 17% or 18% because it can make a pretty big difference.

Other than that, some other tips are daggers tend to be worth more than their counterparts (with roughly same DPS) because of their base attack speed and while not searchable (and therefore a pain) the base block % on shields can also have a pretty significant effect on the price.

Yep, Socket + Dex is good. Maybe 10mil.

I recently got a 1052 dps bow with socket + 2.1% fear and priced it about 10-12 million, but kept it instead. Don't know if it would sell for that price though.
