Regardless of the teams competing a 2 - 3 - 2 format hands a huge advantage to the team with 3 consecutive games on home court, this is particularly true if they can take an away game in the first two. Playoff formats should be structured to give any advantage to the team with the better regular season record. Always.
Being down 3 - 1 and coming back to your home court is a world of difference from being down 3 - 1 and facing a third-straight away game.
And then, being 3-2, coming off a win on your home-court? That's as likely a situation for an away win as any.
But I agree, when Westbrook can't get to the line more than 3 times in a game where he scores 40+ points, there was no way the Thunder were winning in Miami.
Next year the NBA will give the Thunder the title, setting up the rubber-match in 2014.
