Double toe drag, backhand top ched?? Love it.

Sven had another goal and assist tonight, and was +2.

75 points in 38 games.

So the Flames have the best player in the CHL at the moment, correct?

In terms of points per game, yes.

Amazingly, it looks like Sven will finish in the top 8-10 scorers in the WHL despite playing 15-20 games fewer than the other players in the top 10.

Feels like a top 5 pick instead #13.. Hopefully the Flames are careful with his development.

Sven and cammalleri could be quite dynamic together.

Really hard not to get excited about this kid. Going all the way back to the 1997 draft where we took Daniel Tkaczuk, Sven ranks 3rd in PPG in their draft year with a PPG of 1.29. Behind Daniel Tkaczuk who had 93 points in 62 games (1.5 ppg) and Oleg Saprykin who had 93 points in 66 games (1.41 ppg).

The year following their draft year, Bartschi is dominating in comparison. With a PPG of 1.97, 75 points in 38 games the next closest is Rico Fata with 33 points in 23 games for a PPG of 1.43 (played 20 games for the Flames, 1 assist). Funny enough, Daniel Tkaczuk had 75 points the year after his draft, but played 19 more games than Baertschi has so far.

I know it's really early in Bartschi's career but compared to the last 15 1st rounders (Reinhart is the lone exception, 3rd round pick) he has by far the most potential.

I know I am only focusing on points but that's the other great thing. We know the kid has a tremendous work ethic and loves to play the game. Here's hoping the Winterhawks have a long playoff run to lead into his NHL career.

I just hope Brent doesn't hurt his development by putting him with Jackman and stajan... He needs talented people to play with

Well I agree he shouldn't be with Jackman and Stajan, but I wouldn't mind him having a winger who isnt afraid to get their nose dirty. It will inevitably be the approach with young skill players to try and intimidate them with physical play. I'd like someone looking over Sven's shoulder on most shifts just in case.

Although Jackman isn't what I'd call a creative player, I wouldn't mind seeing Baertchi and Stajan together as they could put together some pretty nice plays.

However, he's more likely to start on the 3rd line playing with Jones, Stajan, Backlund, or Horak, depending on who's in the lineup and where they are playing. I'm hoping for some PP time and 3rd line ES personally. Hopefully, playing with some players that are reasonably creative and skilled.

I think the Flames will only bring him to the bigs when he is ready for 1 or 2nd line minutes. Isn't that why he isn't playing this year? He is not a 3rd or 4th line role player and shouldn't spend any time grinding it out with Stajan or Jackman. Imo.

I would like to see him on a line with Jokinen. That guy makes his linemates better.

I hope that by the time Baertschi makes the Flames (as early as the start of next season), Stajan is gone, gone, gone.

Gone.

Almost no player are top 2 line ready when they make the NHL. That's why most guys like Logan Couture or Jeff Skinner start on the 3rd line and get PP time when they break into the league.

That being said, Baertchi could potentially play as a 2nd line winger if that's where there's a fit for him, but I'd be surprised if he doesn't start on the 3rd line until he's at least shown what he's made of at the NHL level.

A Baertschi-Backlund-Moss line might be pretty good.

Like who?

The appeal to me of putting him with Moss is that Moss is one of the few Flames who actually drives the net and I would like to see Baertschi have a guy like that to set up on rushes.

I'm not against Baertschi playing in the top six, but unless Cammalleri moves to C permanently, I'd be surprised to see Sven outplay one of those wingers as a rookie.
