It's 2 now. Rahim Morris is gone too.
1. Rams
2. Bucs
Who's next on Black Monday?

We have all seen how the effectiveness of some coaches' methodologies have a definite shelf life. This may be the case with the Jets. He seemed to be able to rally them the past couple seasons with his braggadocio but this time it didn't work. He is going to need a new approach or some new players next season.
|
I would argue this year it didn't work because they made bad personnel decisions and continually stick with Schottenheimer even though he has done nothing to prove he is worthy of the position much less a head coaching gig.

Well the interim spots in Miami and Jacksonville are givens.
Raheem Morris is likely done.
Jim Caldwell in Indy and Norv Turner could be let go too.
So add in St.Louis and that's 6 jobs. I suppose KC can still be considered an open job. Other than that I guess Jason Garret might be in trouble, maybe Lovie Smith and Chan Gailey too.
I think Shanahan is owed too much money to be fired even though he's done nothing in two years. Others like Frazier and Shermer will be given another year.

with Flynn being a free agent shortly, is there any way the Pack can get any compensation for him other than franchise tagging him? i know there are other tags that can be used, just not sure if they apply in this case? with so many teams needing a QB, why wouldnt you take a chance on this guy?

Tennessee could be open by the end of the week. I think Munchak is going to Penn St.

Morris was a given.....hard to find a more disapointing story in the NFL this year....especially when he was responsible for the defense.
Turner will be ushered out as well...not sure about Smith though. Gailey is a hard one to guage...they got decimated with injuries and still won more games than many expected, so he may get one more year. Shanahan likely isnt going anywhere...as you said owed too much money.
Not sure Caldwell will be turfed either, but if he is i have to beleieve thats an indication Manning will be moving on as well as a complete startover will be in place in Indy.
Couglin saved his job as did lewis, Garrett is only in year 1 really so he wont be turfed unless Jones has his eye on a specific replacement and gets that guy...which may be difficult these days as any really established coach will stay far away from the Dallas gong show IMO. Frazier is going no where...that team doesnt even know if they will be playing in Minny much longer so they are not going to spend money to get better at this point.Andy reid is the one i simply have no idea on....but IMO its time for a changing of the guard in Philly.

Nope...the only way they get any value for him is to franchise him and trade him...and by the sounds of it that isnt gonna happen

Franchise tag is the only way they'll get any real value out of him. Only other option is to let him go to free agency and pick up a compensation pick, probably 3rd rounder which is still not bad for a guy they drafted in the 7th. I believe they can still use the transition tag but that doesn't allow for any compensation just right to match.
It wouldn't shock me to see them franchise and trade him as Thompson has done that move before when he franchised Corey Williams and then dealt him to Cleveland for a pick. It would have to be contingent on a team being ok with the risk that Flynn doesn't negotiate a long term deal, plus the fact that if it doesn't work Pack would be paying their backup more than their starter.

Flynn has played himself into a nice contract, that is for sure. Problem with Flynn is that he has very little actual game experience in both college and the pros.

very true...but he has been on the sidelines or in a lot of huge games...thats experience you just cant coach.
Its a small sample size but his two pro starts produced mind boggling results
731 yds 9 tds and 2 int's.

Best Player in the Game today....yet his backup one up'd him in the only game he played while missing the teams best receiver. I think Aaron Rodgers is a product of the talent surrounding him, I can't see elite numbers out of him on a team with less talented receivers.

LOL!!
He throws the best ball in the game, has the highest qb rating ever recorded for a season...and he is a product of his receivers?
Holy smokes.

Then so is Brees, Manning, Brady and every great QB who has played. His backup has a great game, now Rodgers isnt that great, just a product of the the system? do you know anything about football?

Really though, as a Chiefs fan, I think its great. I hope he comes back to start for the Broncos next season!
|
No, that's not the case either. He ended up starting because Kyle Orton flat out gave three of the first 5 games away and because he's a first round pick with a significant salary.
Truth be told, I do not think he is the long term solution at QB for the Broncos as some do.

The same could be said for Matt Schaub, and Matt Cassell. Problem is, which one are you getting?

Pittsburgh is not stupid. There's a reason they gave the guy away.
