It's just basic common courtesy - it's not like it's an emergency allergy injection.

It is not the same at all.
Changing a bandage at a table is unhygenic, whereas a diabetic injection is not.

I would have been far more concerned about the dinosaur.

Whether it's gunshot wound or a cat bite, or whatever, it seems people have this attitude that whatever they are doing is the most important thing in the world and the rest of the people just have to adjust. Whether it's right or wrong, how about just being polite to your fellow humans, and going to the washroom to do your thing? Just because the lady at the next table may pass out when she sees your needle or some guy might lose his appetite.

I also think you missed the fact that he was exposing himself to your wife.
I'll stop now.

But isn't that exactly the attitude the OP has? I get what your saying and have spoken about both sides of the argument in previous posts, but when people say things like, 'so the rest of us don't have to be subjected to them (whenever possible)', it's pretty clear they're only thinking of their point of view and what they are doing. Which according to your argument, is the exact same thing.

I'm married to someone who can't take the sight of a needle, not in real life, TV, movies, whatever. You don't want to know what his blood pressure goes to when he has to give blood for a routine physical and checkup.
He could not have handled that situation in the restaurant.

Is that a dirty sock on the table next to the needle? If so, he may as well have gone to the bathroom if hygiene was an issue.

No, not the same at all. The OP is at a RESTAURANT, a place of eating, where one reasonably expects to eat without witnessing medical procedures. If the OP was having a sandwich in the GP's waiting room, your point would be valid.

That's fair, which is why people need to use discretion. Can he take his dinner into the other room? Not really feasible. Can the injection be done in another room? Maybe, if that's feasible it seems like a pretty easy accommodation to make.
Part of asking people to show discretion is understanding that in some situations there aren't better options, and that's when you have to show discretion and make the best of it. It is definitely a 2 way street.

Medical procedures
It was hardly open heart surgery.
Just look away and mind your own business.

And great timing with the breastfeeding comment, see my post above. I assume you're one of the self entitled people I refer to at the end. It's all about what I need right? Why take a moment to consider that maybe there are better alternatives and that my actions might impact someone else? This is about me!

If the bathroom in not that unhygenic perhaps you don't mind eating in there? I for one would not eat in the bathroom at most public places, nor would I wish to be asked to inject needles in a place I did not find hygenic enough to eat in. My immune system is far better able to handle things that I injest rather than things that pass directly into my blood stream.

You'll have to forgive the crudeness of this drawing. I didn't have time to paint or draw it to scale:

Yeah, and that's exactly what I'm saying too. Maybe he could have gone to the rest room, but maybe there were reasons why he couldn't. Maybe it was occupied. Maybe it really really stunk! Maybe it just didn't work in his condition or there was some important reason it just made more sense to do it at the table. I know they aren't emergency shots but they are time sensitive. If it was me and I was in that situation I would make a reasonable effort to do it in private/semi-private but I don't know if I could make the leap to say everyone should do it the way I would.
And at the end of the day, even if he could have gone to the restroom and he would have been fine with that, I consider it a pretty small slight. Like I said, not the best of manners, but not rude either. At any rate, I can't really comment completely on his actions as we don't know his side of the story. I can comment on how the situation was received though and some of the comments here (not just the OP) are a little disappointing.

It's FATAING RESTAURANT - why should the people who are there, to, you know, eat, look the other way? If you need to inject something, change a bandage, breastfeed or rub one out, step out or cover up.

Changing a bandage is not a suitable comparison - it is unhygenic. A quick injection, that needs to be taken at meal time IN A RESTAURANT is not!

Reason: for some reason RESTAURANT needs to be in caps.

So how does one person's medical condition (diabetic) out weigh another person's medical condition (becoming ill at the sight of a needle)?

If I became ill at the sight of a needle, I'd not look at it.
