hard to know what his issue was but Feaster (or whomever) better have a good soul search as to what it was and try within the realm of what is possible to deal with the situation. no matter how bad you think things were or weren't under Sutter, the guy was fired- if prospects aren't picking your team based on the past GM that's silly. if they are basing it on the current regime the current regime better figure out why. as bad as the Flames have been there are other terrible franchises who sign their blue chippers

Actually there is still a little bit of blame to lay at the feet of Feaster. The WC have been over for a couple weeks now and Erixon should have been priority #1.

At least if they would have been more forceful in contract negotiations earlier they would have known that Erixon was not gonna sign here and would have had some time to shop him around.

Of course this could have been a blindside by Erixon's agent to make sure only the Rangers would have been in the picture but still Feaster could have been more prepared for this.

			Erixon can burn in hell.
Anyway, we will be more than fine without the D-bag.

Next, we'll be having to re-sign Babchuk to fill the void. Not a bad compromise.

I'm hoping Feaster can maybe package one of the 2nd rounders with the 13th pick to move up a few spots in the draft. Perhaps in the 6-8 range?

A truly terrible day for the history of this team.
 |
C'mon, I bet this will be forgotten by the end of the draft or start of the season. I think this is sign of new era in that Feaster made chicken salad out of chicken s*&t.

Again, we got 2 2nd round picks and a decent prospect. Let the bitterness sit for a few days and this won't be so bad.

I'd argue Ramage is a good upcoming prospect... but he's at least a year off from a shot at it.

Dude Tim Erixon wasn't the be all end all player/prospect for this team. He still has to prove himself at the NHL level and he looked good but not great during the WHC. I won't miss him because he didn't really demonstrate much for me to miss.

Some of you are so pessimistic, relax Horak is a great prospect and has chemistry with the team's best forward prospect.
Watch Howse and Horak tear up the AHL.

Flames now have the following picks in the upcoming draft.#13 First Round

 #57 (WAS) Second Round
 #104 Fourth Round
 #164 Sixth Round

The original 2nd round pick was traded to Chicago in the Bourque deal.
Flames 3rd round pick was traded to Edmonton in the Staios deal.
Flames 5th round pick was traded to NYR in the Erixon deal.
Flames 7th round pick was traded to Winnipeg in the Modin deal.

I think it was likely less that he didn't want to play in Calgary, than he DID want to play in NYC.

I wouldn't be opposed to him using both the second to get up into the 4-8 range. If he can do that I will be happy.

I think we can say goodbye to Babchuk as a result of this, they have the same agent.

Unless maybe there was a wink and a handshake agreement that we could keep Babchuk if we gave into the wishes of Erixon and traded him to the NYR.

Sheesh, Sutter really spent those draft picks like candy. No wonder our prospect pool isn't that hot.
Sucks to lose Erixon, but it's a free world, and you can't force someone to play where he doesn't want to. The return is decent, if nothing fantastic. (Unless Horak is some kind of a hidden gem, which is always unlikely, or we happen to draft someone great, which is always a possibility.)

I would rather have Erixon signed than Glencross or Tanguay. Those players will not be in Cgy when we are a contender again.

Tim Erixon looked like he was going to be a VERY good #3/4 guy on the team. Can play in all situations, a well rounded player.
Simply, we needed him on the team next year due to cap space. I guess this all but confirms that Staios will be back next year.

Agreed these are all unanswered questions but I also believe that Erixon has been a priority and only recently did the Flames realize it wasn't happening.

The fact that he went to NY suggests there was one team he wanted and one team only.

Bobby Mac sums it up:
                            TSNBobMcKenzie Bob McKenzie

Bottom line: If top undrafted Euro prospect (Erixon), who doesn't HAVE to go to NHL, wants to squeeze team (CGY), call his own shot, he can.
