I don't get the backlash over the use of horse on Top Chef. It's a legitimate ingredient in a lot of cuisine, even in Canada.

As for whether or not I found any in Toronto - I didn't. I am still looking, if anyone knows where I can find it locally, that would be much appreciated. I know Bouvry Exports Ltd does it, but I can't find contact information for them anywhere.

I've had horse...wasnt a big fan. Country where I am working right now they have a drink called 'Kamoos'....its fermented mare's milk....basically alcoholic milk. I dont think I will be trying that.
There was a posting on CP a while ago that always stuck with me, talking about humans entering into an agreement with domesticated animals 'you help me out, and I wont eat you'.....this is really the truth. Any animal that is now genetically conditioned to 'working' for humans really shouldnt end up on our plates....horses, dogs etc.....

I had horse steak when i was in brussels last year. A little to "lean" for my liking but a solid and probably healthier alternative to cow.

There's nothing wrong with horse meat... I think the problem is most people have become so far removed from the food production process that they can make that conscious choice not to eat something nowadays.

Wasn't there a supermarket... Jay's or something that used to sell horse meat?

Sorry I didn't mention anything about Brienne

I got curious during my lunch hour to scan some of the comments on that facebook site and on Huffington. Seems like there are 2 groups. 1 group are citing that there is loose regulations and harmful drugs in the meat. The other group are the horses are too cute/helpful to eat

And to answer the Q, yes I'd eat horse. Probably wouldn't be my first choice, but I'd eat it.

Had a lovely bit of horse in Italy, cooked with pecorina cheese, which added a needed bit of fat to balance out the lean.

Gamey compared to beef, closer to moose imho.

I had raw horse in Japan. It was pretty good, although in very tiny bite sizes.

Eh, that's a really stupid idea, a huge waste of good meat. Horse meat is great for sausages (mixed with pork). The typical Finnish meetwurst (essentially salami) has horse in it. It's quite common stuff here. (Otherwise it's not easy to get horsemeat, mostly I think because it's not that great as such.)

Horses are kept very well, so eating them is much more ethical than say eating pork. Considering the environmental issues of food production, I'd say not eating horses is fundamentaly unethical, since they're being bred anyway.

I had several horse dishes in Kazakhstan. It was ok, but not something I'd eat on purpose. And, of course, I got the trots...
