That wasn't even your original argument. You were saying you find it ridiculous that people would spend money on a fancier car, not whether or not people can afford it or not.

So you're getting a German car with 18 mpg in the city? Uh...

And I think it's funny for someone who's still in school to already be planning to spend money that they don't yet have from a job they haven't been hired for. Take it from experience, until you are in the midst of the working world, you only think of best-case scenarios....as a young guy, you forget all the surprise bills, hidden fees, and employment-status changes that reality will hit you with. Make sure your long-term investments, school debts, retirement plans, and rainy-day funds are taken care of with your monthly pay-cheque before you start spending it on luxury cars. Just because a lot of people go buying things they can't really afford, doesn't mean you have to fall into the same trap.
That is, unless you have money coming to you already from other sources, which I suspect is the case. In that case, go nuts.

It's not the case but thanks for the lecture. I know how to invest my money and get some proper #### out of it. For example my car, instead of pissing my money away at 20 on beer and partying i saved and bought myself a nice car... sure its just a stupid car and a stupid investment in general but i know priorities (I bought my car before i really grew up).
TBQH my plan is to save for a while and buy a house with my gf/fiance. Get our finances in order than maybe looking at getting a nice family car that is reliable and safe (hence the 335xi).
To the OP, if your mom likes the new look of the TL's (most dont), get one with the SH-AWD, they are great cars.

Sh'e be very happy with a Lexus IS350 if she enjoyed her Acura.
I highly recommend it.
Also, have her look at the new Volvo S60, it's very nice as well

Sorry man, but until you start paying your own bills, you haven't grown up yet. And that's not a lecture, that's just reality. It's good for all of us to have goals and to save for them, but until you're actually financially self-reliant, it doesn't mean much.

To me its more of a logistical challenge. I could be self sufficint if i was done my degree and working. I did lots of soul searching and travelling 2 years ago, puts things in perspective.
I agree though that ive still got lots to learn, im just an optimistic person in lots of ways, pisses my gf off a lot that i plan on things when they haven't happened yet. To be honest i dont really see myself buying that nice of a car, especially because ill be thinking about kids and the extra costs and mortgage and whatnot, but its nice to dream and imagine what might be.

I guess whether buying a house is a good investment at this time is for another thread. At first blush, I have to admit that the 335xi (300+ hp, twin turbo, etc.) is not the first thing that comes to mind when I think "family car."

So then why are you responding? Go troll a walking shoes thread, or something that is more consequential to you.

You need a luxury car to go 110 on Deerfoot why exactly?
|
Some people like TVs, some people have a horse, some people collect antiques. Whatever floats your boat. (some people like boats, too)
Your opinion is valid, but it's needlessly condescending. Going 110 on Deerfoot is not a car's sole purpose. Some people get a thrill from dropping a gear and taking a corner. Some people spend a big chunk of their time in their cars. Not everyone drives to the office and then parks for 8 hours. And of those that do, some of them like driving somewhere on the weekend.

Yikes it's about a car in the 50k range. And people are complaining that pokerstars is down, with no criticism there. The CTS is a little fast for your mom I would say. Why not buy a grand national

Sigh... If you're not a car enthusiast that's cool, but can you please stop acting like being into cars is childish? I love taking a windy road in my RX7 on a nice day.

I know this was just a smarmy smart @$$ attempt at sarcasm, but to people who do like driving cars, it honestly does.
I'm not quite sure why you feel the need to trash other people's interests to make yourself feel better. Must be pretty awesome being you huh?

What's the point of posts like this.
It's a scaled-down equivalent of canucks trolls on a Flames board who honestly think they will eventually change people's minds about their team by defending them all the time.
Frankly, I think you are missing out on one of life's truly awesome experiences. In the right kind of car, driving is exhilarating and a joy 99% of the time (the other 1% is when bad drivers get the best of you).
If you don't like it, fine. But that's your loss, not ours.

Not to mention, I heard the other day that North Americans spend an average of over 22 days/year in their car. Why not enjoy it?

Or even properly around an offramp. I'm not even talking about going to the limit that your car can handle. However, it's this sort of attitude that allows Europe to get more fun cars than we do.

It might sound stupid to some, but to me there are few things more satisfying than changing into 4th from 3rd. There's just something about it that feels awesome.

Flames fans troll other teams fans on this forum a whole lot more than vice versa.
We're allowed to troll FOI, but why not the off topic?
