That means nothing for developers except for a preparation to kick you in the nuts if you're already using a 4-5 finger multitouch. I had an idea about using an expose like gesture, but that wouldn't work if there is a global gesture for bringing up multitasking or bringing you to the home page.
If it's in the beta, it's likely to be in production release of 4.3. They rarely take out major feature sets like that after deciding to release it to beta.
That's good to know - I was only reporting what I had read. And as I said, I'd be choked if it wasn't included, after seeing those vids of it in action.
Has anyone experienced a problem with an iPad (OS 4.2.1) losing it's wi-fi connection after coming out of sleep mode? This is a wi-fi only ipad.
Its not just an iPad issue. Sleep mode power settings on alot of mobile devices dont jive properly with what is required for continued communication/handshake to maintain a WiFi signal and WiFi radios are one of the largest power consumers on a mobile device.

I remember on macbreak Alex Lindsay (who i consider to be a little bit of a fanboy) predicted it would sell about 12 million units. I thought he was just insane for going that high. It's pretty clear why Steve and co. are focusing more on mobile.
It's unclear if the gestures are going to make it into 4.3. Some people are speculating, based on the developer notes for the beta, that Apple is giving developers a preview of something in the pipeline, not of something that's definitely scheduled for inclusion in 4.3. I think the concern is that co-opting the gestures for system use may break a number of apps.
If they aren't somewhat imminent, I almost wish I'd never seen the demos online.
If it's any consolation, I'm heartbroken they won't be in 4.3
Wanna hear my new fear? I'm fearful those specific gestures won't be supported on first gen iPads, with Apple citing a need for more RAM
Switching apps via the home button is OK if you're flipping back and forth occasionally, but if you are flipping back and forth a lot (like say between a browser and a Beejive chat), it gets annoying really quickly. Being able to just swipe back and forth would be ideal

Hmmm ... I could definitely see this happening. That would be quite the prick move. The Apple haters would get quite loud if that were the case.

Hopefully it won't be the case - iOS is task switching more than multitasking, so there's little reason it couldn't be supported on first gen. It would be a very artificial distinction for Apple to make.
FanIn80 had played with 4.3b1 - FanIn, how did you find the performance of the swipe based task switching?
Probably well timed after the Android Honeycomb show yesterday but that still seems early to me...
Does it seem early if all it has is a camera, maybe a slightly better CPU, and a slightly slimmer design? I doubt this iteration took even a 1/10th of the design and engineering of the last one.
I'm betting on incremental improvements, with a big focus on getting the 3G version to work on all the carriers, not just AT&T or whoever in the States. If it's a major overhaul, I'd be shocked.

I actually don't own an iPad, so I've never played with the gestures. I just have 4.3 going on my iPhone.
I think Russ should be able to address this, though.

I'm not suggesting Apple couldn't have the iPad 2 ready to preview yet, just that it seems early to announce if we assume it isn't being released until April.
But, I didn't realize until now that they ran the same timeline for the original, so it's not all that surprising at all.

Do you think the iPad 2 will come out and be the same price point as the current iPads ? Will they have 3G ones available in iPad 2 from the get go ? I only ask because I know there was a gap from the Wifi coming out and the Wifi/3g coming out in the first gen ones.
I am wanting to buy an iPad here in the next week or so , however if the iPad 2's are coming out wouldnt it make sense just to wait for a month and a half? Will there be that many more features?

I'd wait, the iPad has been out for almost a year now, so if you've waited that long, why not wait another month to see the difference between the 1st and 2nd gen ones.

Yeah I figured as much .... I wonder if it will still be 629 for the 16gig 3g one . As a matter of fact , bestbuy here in the states has it on sale for 599.

Well TBQH , I will buy the 2 if its the same price point as the current one . However if it comes out and all thats added is a camera and its a tad smaller in stature I will enjoy the savings and buy the iPad 1.
