Cycle it, man.
You have to get NHL 10 out of your head. Cross crease passes do not work unless there is no dman in between you, otherwise, you can pretty much forget about it.
No more winging passes through 3 sets of skates. Have to work it along the boards now, chip it out into the neutral zone and force turnovers from your own blueline out. Sometimes a shot really is the best option, if you're thinking a guy like McGrattan is going to receive your pass and get a good shot on the rush, again, forget about it.
Positioning is the most important part of the game. If you're good at nothing else but positioning, you'll still win games. You won't score a lot, but you should win.

I had about 4000 MS points saved up from a couple points cards I had won. I bought a pile of packs, but got mostly crap... then I just started selling a bunch of my collection off and cherry-picked some good deals in the Trades menu.
A few trades with friends, too. Traded Comrie to an Oiler fan buddy of mine for Lombo. Stuff like that.
That trades menu is pretty cool btw. You can find some pretty good deals if you just camp out for a bit. I've seen Iggy listed for 8000 to 35000 pucks, so nabbing him for 2400 pucks was a pretty good deal (for instance).
Edit: I just got Bouwmeester up to 94 too. His potential is listed as 92, but it's easy to go over the potential. He has 4 training slots, so I threw a 9CHK, a 9SKT and 2x 9SHT cards on him.

Am I one of the few that absolutely loathes this game still?
So slow, hitting mechanics are bunk, scoring is confusing, gameplay is erratic.
This drive towards making everything supremely realistic is driving me the hockey gamer mad, perhaps it's too realistic to enjoy as a game? I'm not sure but I can't be the only one that feels this way?

It still drives me nuts that I can't assign captains or change jersey numbers in HUT mode.

i dislike it still. i feel like the gameplay has gotten worse than last year. it just doesnt feel right. there's lots of little things i think went backwards or once again went unchanged.
HUT mode has been fun the last few days, but i am starting to get burnt out on it. playing all day just to buy 1 good pack of cards is super disappointing when your rare is a rangers jersey or a 25 game contract that can be bought for 1/10th the price of the pack. i am unemployed right now so i can sit around all day watching the market, but i could imagine playing this mode casually would be much harder without paying.
i have found online play to have gotten worse. its more like peewee hockey with everyone chasing the puck around as it bounces and deflects through the neutral zone. everyone goes for these gigantic hits that happen in real like once a month, yet in the game they happen every 30 seconds.

Sold a PK Subban card for 17 500 over the weekend, I really thought there was no way anybody would be crazy enough to buy it.
Hoping it will be enough to get me 3 90+ players for my top line.

Is that necessarily a problem with the game or players movement in general? Players online make themselves easy targets compare to real life.

I really can not stand the tripping calls ... You either dont touch them , or they stumble and you get called .... yet you get your stick hacked out of your hands or they stick lift and it turns you side ways and they dont get called...
I just had the most ridiculous goal scored on me in HUT online. Guy fires a slapper into my goalies chest . Its falls straight down ,bounces on the ice, then apparently its rocket boosters get turned on because then the puck jets in between my goalie's legs at 100 mph into the net. No one was even around... it was funny tho!

Just a question about the replays . I never saved one before last night....
I was playing an online game. I scored the ot goal and saved a short clip. After I was done I saved it but didnt upload to easports world or whatever. So I just want to know how to view it??
Do I need the game on? I went under saved data and I saw the name I saved it under but dont know how to view it. Its not a big deal but I figured someone on here will know.
Thanks

jobo, i feel the big hits happen with both real people and cpu's in any combination. there is no way in the game to be physical aside from completely knocking someone over. perhaps its just because its a game and people can go 100% all the time, but to me it just sucks that every time down the ice there are multiple people getting crushed.
that transitions into my first thing. they need to create new ways to play defense. the reason diving became such a strategy is because it worked. they need a tie up button; they need a way as a defender to just stay with the forward. the ai defense needs to smarten up around their own net. and i don't mean in terms of cross creases. whenever the goalie has the puck, they all abandon the net. its nowhere realistic and its nowhere near good hockey. forwards can have their way around the net. this year especially they can poke till the cows come home as there seems to rarely be a penalty.
another issue is gliding. you can take a stride or two and get all the way down the ice. its unrealistic and can be difficult as it makes you have to be hyper sensitive if wanting to move small distances. when diving you can go most of the way down the rink. this was not a problem i notices in past games. seems to be a step backwards for me.
auto back skate. this is apparently just a glitch but they have had problems with it before. as i recall it used to get turned on based off of what the host of the game had set. this year you cant turn it off. nothing is more frustating than getting blown by because my guy wont turn around. nothing is worse than to be skating back and having your guy switch back and forth over and over getting you out of position.
pucks in the air are batted with a success rate better than joe dimaggio and tony gwynn combined. aside from being unrealistic, it actually sucks sometimes as i will be in the offensive zone in single player hoping to get a rebound but instead of letting it land and playing it then, the cpu automatically hits it the wrong direction. not to mention most pucks played in hockey like that are whistled dead of high sticks.
goalie passing has gotten very bad in single player. i have been having all kinds of trouble getting the goalie to pass to a defender when then goalie is behind the net playing the puck. at this point i would just prefer a way to make the goalie always stay in his net. when he goes back to play the puck, its always an adventure.
dropping sticks. it happens way too much IMO. and in real hockey if you stick lift someone and they drop their stick you are taking a penalty. i am happy with how much sticks break. i think thats working. however every time i see someone drop their stick i giggle inside a little.
those are some gameplay specific things i noticed. i also just saw that a tuner update was released. maybe that will help things. i am always open to patches and tuners fixing things. but for me as it stands now it is pretty unplayable.
edit: something else i just remembered after reading nickers post. the puck logic after it hits the goalie is awful. several times a game the puck will go straight up over the goalie. several times a game the puck will just sit and spin on him. none of this i find realistic.

I agree with all of this. Goalie passing is horrendous, no goalie in the NHL moves that slow and passes that poorly. The stick lift/drop thing should most definitely be a penalty (but the frequency needs to decrease first...they aren't peewees).
A tie up button would be great out front. It's so frustrating to try and play defense. It'd be nice to see a tie up button that if you used for too long, you'd get a penalty.
Couple other things that I think would be sweet, even if they came out next year:
- Don't have the ref drop the puck in the zone. Just erase the arm bands and make it look like a linesman, then have him skate out of the zone or something. I'm not sure how you would do that without getting all four officials on the ice. That would be a pretty sweet addition as well I think...although it might make the ice a little too congested.
- Get rid of those idiot broadcasters. I'm so sick of Bill Clement, I swear to God I'd rip out his throat if I ever met him in person.
- Fix the Enmax Energy Board! I don't wanna see a generic jumbotron in Calgary!

My goalie scored his first goal the other day...
Instead of passing the puck to my Dman, like I told him too, he decided to somehow pass it on to his skate and have it bounce between his legs, ending the game in OT.
Amazing.
No one was within 30 feet of him.

I think its under the My Highlights section, cant recall where to find it exactly right now.
Just go to the main menu of the game and click on the tabs, youll find it pretty quickly.
