Very bad accident involving C-Train downtown

I'm surprised the trains don't have some sort of skirting which pushes people away from the car as opposed to pinning them between the train and platform.

Crap. i was kinda worried there for a while. My son is downtown right now and my wife, my sister inlaw and mother inlaw didn't answer their phones for 20 minutes.

My kid takes off alot. so much that we had to buy him a leash.

Just awful to hear.

Accidents happen. This one is particularly heartbreaking.

I walked by there quickly and saw the police cars and the tarp. Then moved on to Stephen Ave.

I found it disturbing that hundreds of people were standing around trying to catch a glimpse. Let the police to their work. Obviously there's been a tragedy. Move along.

I make sure I have hold of my son everytime the train nears, I am just never going to take a chance on this.

Tragic and I feel horrible for everyone involved/connected.

The leash we have is awesome. I know that it seems a little weird to have your kids on a leash or whatever, but the upside is that they can't get away from you to cause trouble.

Leashes are stupid. They're freaking kids, not animals. I know kids can be a lot of trouble sometimes but putting them on a leash is cruel.

I'm not a fan of a leash for your kids. Never have, never will. I've been to alot of places with my kids and have never thought to myself "Boy it would be nice to have my kids on a leash now". Maybe my kids are good at staying by my side but even if they weren't I still wouldn't do it. It just doesn't seem right, you put your pets on a leash, not your kids.

Similarly, whenever I'm at a train station with my son, I put the brakes on the stroller. Just in case.

Horrible. Personally I don't think the C trains system is all that safe, they operate way to close to pedestrians, traffic, etc. Having a train system mixed in at the same level as everything else is a bad idea...but I guess its the way it was put in from the beginning. Hear about quite a few incidents with the c-train in Calgary.

Really tragic, condolences to the family.

You sound like a resonably aware parent. Unfortunately some children do require a leash.

I just see it as an extension of my arm which allows my child to have a wider range of exploration than if he was forced to walk by my side holding my hand.
