I called BS, but I was with him awhile ago when he had a few, and we hit a checkstop, and sure as ****, cop says "Have you had anything to drink?". He just made sure not to talk/breathe into the cops face and said "nothing". The cop looked a little suspicious, and stared at him for a couple of seconds, and just "okay, have a good night". So who knows.

I didn't say you wouldn't pull one over on the cops every once in a while. If you get caught though, you're done.

THe OP didn't dodge a DUI. He got a 30 day suspension. It is not the same thing. He got his license revoked for 30 days because he is on GDL. THat means he can't drink and drive AT ALL. Not like most of us who can drink and drive, we just can't be impaired.
At no point did the OP give any indication that he was drunk. Plus if he was drunk he'd probably have gotten a DUI (unless you're like moon and think cops are slackers). He didn't so we can likely assume he wasn't drunk.
You seem to imply that anyone in this thread is condoning driving while impaired. I've read every single post in this thread and not a single person made that claim.
Several people incorrectly assumed that anyone who drives after having consumed alcohol is a drunken buffoon endangering all of our lives (and the lives of our wives and children) but that was just a few posters.

Okay flop. Come back and say it's okay, when a buzzed, but legal driver plows into a member of your family.
Just because you can have a couple beers and drive doesn't mean you should. I'd have thought you'd be smart enough to understand that. Obviously I overestimated your intelligence and maturity.

You did the same with your first post.
"This guy doesn't sound like he was a danger at all, it just sounds like that new GDL system is pretty harsh. "
You assume he wasn't drunk, others are assuming he was. This goes both ways. All we know is that he consumed alcohol and has a 30 day suspension. Was he drunk or was he not drunk? We won't know for sure as he wasn't tested.

So you think our driving laws should be changed?
I obviously underestimated your intelligence if you know better than every province and state in NA because AFAIK they all have have laws that permit drinking and driving so long as you aren't intoxicated.
Clearly you are the preeminent world expert on impaired driving. Why can't all of our CP posters be as enlightened and mature as you.
So you're not just calling me an idiot, you are saying everyone who thinks it is ok to consume alcohol and then operate a motor vehicle, regardless of how much they had or factoring in any of the other circumstances, are idiots and are ripe for killing a family because they are impaired. Wow. Keep fighting the good fight buddy because I'm sure 95% of CP disagrees with you.

Big difference between I drank and I was drunk.
I know people need to rush to judge others and tell them how terrible they are but people could at least wait until the facts are out before coming out with their usual holier than thou BS.

Suffice to say I don't drive while drunk.

Wow, flop is immune to the usual side effect of poor judgement after drinking. Why am I not surprised. "I know my limit" - famous last words.

Yes, that's fair. To be honest, I forgot I made that assumption. I guess I should clarify, no one, including me, should be making assumptions. But in reality, it would be nice if the OP would let us know how much he drank, and over what period of time.

Could you make yourself look anymore like a fool?
You just condemned pretty much everyone who's ever had a glass of wine with dinner or a beer at a pub to death because they drive drunk all the time by your standards.
Maybe you should ask the CPS why they don't sit outside of restaurants and pubs and arrest every single person that attempts to drive home because they are all drunk because they drank. Doesn't matter how much, doesn't matter if they are impaired. Anyone who consumes alcohol is drunk and WILL die and probably kill a family while doing so.
You sure are smart.

I can't believe anyone would defend drinking and driving in any context.

So to clarify, you think if someone has one beer, they are an idiot and a threat and should be taken off the road?

flameswin, I can't comprehend your posts. It must be because you are drunk and your judgment is impaired.
Wait, maybe it is because I had a beer this afternoon and I am drunk.
Let's both take our cars and meet somewhere really busy and we can evaluate each other's level of impairment. If longsuffering is right we'll both crash into each other on the way there and kill each other. That'd teach us for having a glass of wine with dinner.

Not as smart as you I guess. I always thought alcohol impaired judgment. You know better. Oh, the arrogance of youth.
But I'm sure alcohol has never impaired your judgment. You've never gone to bed with a great looking woman and woke up next to an ugly one I guess.
Oops, I'm making 2 assumptions.
1. You like girls
2. You're not a virgin
And FYI, the CPS often do sit outside restaurants and bars, or set up check stops in the area.

I think we can continue this discussion without the need for name calling.
Edit- that also goes for name calling against the police. We have many members on CP who are police officers, and they often give their real world experiences to help out fellow CPers.

ANd they frequently arrest people for drinking and driving after having had only a single beer, maybe two?

So what do you think of a cop telling me I should be okay to drive after 4 beers over the course of a reasonable amount of time? A Calgary Police Officer made a judgment call that I was fine to drive, but by your standards he's an idiot, or do you trust that judgment call because he's a cop?

I'm saying that regardless on what an officer told you, there is no guarantee he wouldn't stop you after observing your driving.
