The caesar salad originated in Mexico of all places. By an Italian I believe.

There are a few unique-like foods in this part of the world.

Grits...usually served with butter and salt and pepper. My wife grew up mixing them with fish roe and when she makes that, I literally have to leave the house. The smell alone grosses me out.

biscuits and gravy for breakfast (reallly good but so unhealthy)


Fried chicken like no other I have tasted...so good.

Ramps...again something I cannot stand...so pungent and overpowering.

The flavor and odor of ramps is usually compared to a combination of onions and garlic, and the garlic odor is particularly strong. Strong enough, in fact, that even ramp-lovers will advise caution. If you sit down to a big meal of ramps, don't be surprised if people continue to keep their distance after a few days have passed!

- Curanto (youtube video of this being on the rocks on the beach around Castro/Isla Chiloe. If you can find the video of the one from the show Departures, even better).

laguna beach, CA - a little taco shop right by the beach called Taco Loco.

They have AWESOME tacos with different types of meats such as mahi mahi, fish, shrimp, lobster, beef, chicken. they also have a vegan menu too with blackened tofu which I heard is quite tasty. All very reasonably priced too. Service is a different story though. Not the best customer service, but whatever, it's a small taco shop.

Open til midnight on weekdays and 2am on weekends. awesome for an afterhours late night snack.
