Go to bed with the kids and wake up an hour early and do it then. Best time to work out and get it out of the way before you start your busy day. Also means you can spend more time with the kids without worrying about making time for working out as you have already completed it before the family wakes up.

Just started Phase 2 yesterday. Anxious to see how I like it compared to Phase 1. I certaintly didn't care much for Week 4 of Phase 1. I felt like I was taking the week off. Only 90 days and you get to take a week off?

I think a lot of it has to do with letting your muscles recover and ensuring that your flexibility is improved.

I really enjoyed the Back & Biceps routine. It is a quick work out but the burn is really good.

When I'm stiff or my legs are sore I go for a walk and do some work on my foam roller.

Oh, if you don't have a foam roller, get one and use it everyday. They're $50, and I promise you'll feel better in general from always using it.

I hear you HOOT, I am making excuses to do P90X but I have started running at lunch. I do 5 kms 4 times a week along the bike path. It's a nice change to get outside during work and enjoy some of the "scenery" on the pathway.

At least I'm getting some exercise in. Maybe some day I'll tackle P90X, I've heard nothing but good things about it.

I'm the king of excuses, even more so when it comes to exercise and cleaning my house , so I know what it can be like. I was just suggesting it because some people overlook or ignore the morning and try and fit their gym/workout after work or after the kids go to bed. For me personally when I work out in the mornings it just kicks my day off in such a good way but if I know I have to workout after work I will make any plans or think of any excuse to just go home and watch some hockey.

Keep up the good work because it sounds like what you are doing is working and truly your diet is 90% of the battle. Great idea with the runs during lunch, I know quiet a few people that do that who get longer lucnhes.

Maybe look into p90z when you have reached a plateau you can't get past and just need that extra little ass kicking!

I think I am actually going to start doing the morning workout. It basically means that I would be showing up to work an hour later, thus having to leave an hour later. But it is better than trying to do it at 10:00 at night. Too tired for that to continue.

Week 3

Chest & Back: Done. Ab ripper was a bit hard but I think I wasn't breathing enough.

So does anyone skip sections when you have completed the workout? For example, if I only can do 10 chin ups and Tony is showing off how many he can do and there is 30 still seconds left do you skip to the next workout? I do this and find I can sometimes cut the workout down by a few minutes.

Tonight is plyometrics. My knees are a bit sore from my run but I should be fine tonight.

I definitely fast forward a couple times.

I did Back and Biceps as my first "super early" morning workout today (YAWN!). I found that I couldn't do nearly as many chin ups this morning compared to what I thought I should be able to. Ab ripper killed me after, first time in a while that I didn't get my 25 reps in for each excersize.

I don't really skip sections. There are times when I don't use the whole allotted time, but I just use it to do some stretching or drink water.

I really dislike dive bomber pushups. They usually make me dizzy, and I always used to cut them out. But now i've kind of been able to do them. Will see if that continues. Same for in plyo when you spin around, i hate that one.

I don't know if I will do plyo tonight. I really want to but I have a hockey game. If I do plyo before the game I will be beat. My legs will be dead. I'm thinking my best bet will just be to go hard during the game to get cardio in and on thursday, instead of doing kenpo, do plyo then. Plyo > Kenpo. So I guess that's it for my perfect streak.

I guess I just don't have 90 days where I'm not doing some sort of other physical activity during that timeframe. I'm playing hockey in the spring as well, so i'm going to run into this problem again. Not positive what i'm going to do. Sometimes I play 2 times a week. I don't want to drop 2 p90x workouts in one week.

Edit: Also, i'm getting probably around 300/349 on ab ripper. Hopefully by the end of this week I should be close to doing the whole thing.

Edit2: I did the math. I did 287/349 on ab ripper yesterday. Basically on all exercises, I took a 5 rep break. So instead of doing 25 crunchy frogs, I did 20, 20 bicycles forward, 20 fifer scissors, etc. Still did all the mason twists though! After thinking about it I don't know if I will be able to do the whole thing by the end of the week. The 5 rep break is golden. We will see.

I think your plan to play hockey tonight and replace kenpo with plyo should be fine. Hockey burns major calories. As you progress in the program you might not find yourself as sore and thus you could probably do the upper body workouts and play hockey in the same night. I know the summer leagues have earlier ice times so that may be a problem.

So a couple of developments yesterday. I went into the endboards at top speed last night and smashed up my hip. I'm kind of limping around, but not a big deal. It shouldn't affect p90x. I had a pretty good burn for hockey last night. Pushed myself to skate hard. Can feel my endurance coming back after a week of p90x.

The really bad part is i'm have a head cold. Yesterday afternoon I felt the throat tingle. I started drinking echinacea tea in the afternoon and when I got home I knew I had full blown aids cold.

I'm going to try to power through this. It's odd, it seems as though i always get sick during some part of p90x. Maybe that's because I just do it all the time basically. Anyway, I hate getting sick because I don't think I should. Healthy diet + adequate sleep + exercise sets you up for a pretty good defense against viruses.

So i'm on echinacea and zinc lozenges right now. hopefully it's a quick one.

Back and Biceps tonight and hopefully have the mind frame to do plyo tomorrow.

I have been fighting something off as well. My throat has been sore for about a month but it just doesn't seem to get worse... or better for that matter.

Sorry to hear about your hip, hopefully it heals quickly for you. One quick question, you said Back & Biceps for yesterday, did you mean Shoulders & Arms?

As for my updates:

Tuesday: Plyo went well again, I really tried to concentrate on landing softly and I definitely felt the burn. I am recovering a lot quicker since the first time I did it.

Wednesday: some improvement in my numbers. I seem to be having issues with the first few exercise as my shoulders/rotator cuff is quite stiff & sore when I start. I assume that is because of all of the push-ups on Monday but I was hoping that my body would start adjusting to them. I had some improvements with ab ripper as well. Probably did about 95% of the reps. Still have issues on one side for the oblique v-ups but in time I am sure it will improve. Hip flexors and thighs are strengthening so the first few ab exercises aren't so painful.

I am rearranging my schedule for the remaining days of this week as I want to go on a long run again but I don't want to miss another p90X work out.

So Thursday: Legs & Back
Friday: rest/stretch/scotch
Saturday: Long run ~18K
Sunday: Yoga

Next week is my first recovery week, I find it hard not to do the lifting exercises this week but I will give it ago. Looking at my work schedule and not doing Kenpo I plan on the following:

Monday: Core Synergistics (don't want to do two days of yoga in a row)
Tuesday: Yoga X
Wednesday: Run
Thursday: Rest or X Stretch (probably rest)
Friday: Run & X Stretch
Saturday: Core Synergistics
Sunday: Yoga X

That is all for me now, probably won't update until Monday or Tuesday. Keep on keeping on.

I have a question for all you p90x folk - have any of you ever worked out a gym before? If so, do you prefer the gym or p90x. Assume for a second that you live by yourself and have no kids so basically you have all the time in the world to hit the gym 5 times a week (at least).

I had worked out at a gym for about 8 years before starting my first round of P90x last year. Even then I still had my membership and started going back after the 90 days was completed. Needless to say, I got in the best shape of my life doing P90x last year than years of going to a gym, no word of a lie. I do not have kids at the moment or ones that I know of but my fiancee and I do have a dog which I feel better about when I workout at home.

The main issue with P90 I would say is what to do after. I haven't really decided that as I just want to get through this round. Truthfully, I should just be doing another round if I am able to get the same results as I did last time. Hope this helps.

No kids here. I used to go to the gym when I basically had no means to do anything at home. After getting set up with the little equipment it takes to do P90X at home I haven't even considered going back to the gym.

I find it's pretty easy to skip the gym after work. If your gym is at home you can't avoid it. It's right there every day when you walk in the door.

That is exactly it, I find the hardest part about working out is getting there [to the gym]. I have invested a fair bit of cash though to make sure I have the top of the line equipment. The PowerBlocks are such a great investment and I don't have to worry about changing weights or anything. Having good equipment definitely makes it easier to stay motivated.

One small little hint that I think works for me is once you have completed your workout for the day, put in the next DVD you will be doing the following day. This little step just saves that little bit of time and helps keep the motivation up, IMO. I know, it is something so small but for some reason I just feel better being all set to go when I get home from posting on CP...errrr, I mean work.

Yeah, I mean Shoulders & Arms. Crushed it last night too. Improved on all my numbers. Didn't wear myself out. I tend to do with on Back & Biceps on Monday. The first round I just giver and then the second round I struggle a bit. So I have to tone that back, But Shoulders & Arms went well last night and I felt pretty good doing it.

I definitely have the soreness you're talking about. Especially in the chest area from Mondays workout. It takes a little bit to get that out.

I will do plyo tonight. Looking forward to it.

I used to work out at the Gym in Mount Royal when I went there. it was nice because I had time in between classes to go. But since i've graduated, i've never signed up to a gym. I figured Doing p90x for basically free was better than having to drive some place and spend my time there. In addition, it gives you a strict schedule to follow, and there is no second guessing. I could make a program for myself for the gym, but I do like the p90x program, and it seems to work.

If you are a superstar and know how to work out and all that, then maybe a gym is a good place for you. If you're more beginner/intermediate, p90x is a good program because all you have to do is follow it. makes it really easy for someone who doens't know what their doing. Not saying that any of us don't know what we're doing, but it is a convenience thing for sure. Being able to work out in your home with minimal equipment is something I like.

You use powerblocks? Oh man, I would like something like that. Do you recommend a specific one?

With me p90x is kind of a set schedule thing. Like you guys are saying, right when I walk in the door, I start my workout. If you have stuff to do on your way home from work, it's easy to bypass the gym. If you workout at home, whatever time you get home, you know you need to work out. That's how it works for me anyway.
