I was laughing my ass off in my office when I read that breaking tidbit of news.

Speaking of Schefter, he is reporting that Shanahan's agent has arrived in DC to broker a deal.

So for all you fans of teams that underacheived or just plain sucked, what was your favourite terrible stat for your team? Mine has to be the Seahawks with 1 sack in the last 17 quarters of the season, yes, the last 4.25 games of the season they had 1 sack.

I was listening to the Chiefs broadcast on Sunday driving home and they mentioned that the Chiefs receivers had 50 dropped passes on the season at one point in the game one short of an NFL record. Blows my mind, I can practice and learn to catch a football. I can't run 40 yards in 4.4 seconds or less, I can't turn on a dime and run precise routes, I can't out jump a lot of people. I don't think I can get to the side lines and make sure I get two feet down before I go out of bounds. But the one thing I can learn to do is catch a freaking football.
Dustin Colquitt also came one punt short of tying a record for most punts inside the opponents 20 yard line. Ryan Succup aka Mr.Irrelevent also tied a rookie record by hitting on 25 of 29 field goals for the season for accuracy %.

Dropped passes are not an official NFL stat. Its too subjective as to what is catchable and what isn't.
Todd Haley was quoted as saying he has never seen so many dropped passes in his life, which the good folks at Arrowhead Pride debunked because either the Jets or Bears in the mid 90's had the most dropped passes in league history (unofficially) and Haley was a member of the coaching staff. I kind of thought that was funny.

The Chiefs have been so bad for so long that bad stats don't even phase or surprise me. I have kind of become numb to them. One off the top of my head would be that the Chiefs went 16 games untill they scored a touch down in the first quarter.

Well the thing is blogs, media, fans, internet folk...they obsess over stuff like this.
It's like when you ask a NHL GM about a trade he made, half the time he doesn't have the players or the year right. But chances are some fan knows it 100%. It's a big reason why coaches, managers, and players really hate media types, and media types in turn often have a strong hate on for bloggers. Someone always trying to prove someone wrong over trivial stuff.

Its the age we live in. We need to know everything right away, and the more information we receive the more we want to receive. I can see why players and coaches would hate that, although, obsessive fans are what brings in the big revenue to these teams and fuels the players and coaches massive salaries.

I think the obsessive guy is home on Sunday with 3 computers running trying to keep tabs on all his fantasy teams. To tell you the truth it's a market that the NFL needs to figure out how to extract a few more dollars from because it does have such huge potential. The people going to the stadium tail gating and watching the games are one entity. But the new younger generation, a lot of them would rather not be at the game because at 12:55 they're trying to figure out who they should start as their 2nd running back and 3rd wide receiver.

That doesn't sound like me....not at all.....
But truthfully, going to an NFL game was a GREAT experience, but I think I might like watching it on TV better. Maybe that's because I've always watched the games on TV, but I like to see the whole play unfold start to finish. I can see how bad the LT is playing, or how the CB and the S made the wrong read.
When you are at the game, you can't analyze the game like you can when you are sitting on the couch.
Maybe that's just me though.

Then you get Jerry Jones explaining that he made his stadium such an event simply to try and get those people away from the TV set and into the stadium.
Now if he had tempered that with reasonable ticket/parking prices then perhaps he could have been believed.

It's not just you. With DVR's, streaming on the net, it's how a lot of the really hard core types can follow the game. You can literally keep an eye on everything all at once.
I'll admit I don't even play fantasy football, but I'll have a game on T.V. but my lap top is there with me with a bunch of tabs opened up keeping tabs on just the stats or drives.
I liked the experience of going to a game too. As I said I'll go to Seattle to watch one next year. But the other 16 weeks, my home experience is tough to beat now, especially when I factor in cost.

The rest of the opponents have been released for next year. I'll likely head down to Nashville to see the Eagles play the Titans. I may also look at taking a trip to Jacksonville since tickets should be fairly easy to come by.

Ha! I'm the other way around. I think I can see what is happening a lot better when I'm at a game rather than at home. I love watching plays develop downfield, reading coverages, etc.
When I'm at home, I feel I'm restricted to what the network wants you to see. Of course, replays and sky cam, etc. always show the whole play after the fact, but that development of the play is missing from home, IMO.

I agree, in the stadium you can see the play develop and know exactly where the ball is going to go. On TV the QB drops back in the pocket, launches a pass, and for a split second you have no idea what is happening down field off screen.

The NFL must be making something off of that since they advertise playing fantasy football at nfl.com so much. I'm not sure what kind of numbers it generates but pretty much everyone and their dog is playing fantasy football now. It has definitely helped generate more fan and new fan interest for the league.

Fantasy Football is what got me watching the NFL in the first place and it's actually the reason I picked the team I currently cheer for. Picked up this rookie, Daunte Culpepper, in Smallworld when I was a FF virgin. When he started blowing up, I started to cheer for him, then the team...and voila. A die-hard Vikings fan in Calgary, AB.
So, for me, it's hard to believe FF is a bad thing for the league, just increases their exposure outside of NFL markets.
As for the at the game/on the couch argument, when I went to that game in Arizona, we had to stand the WHOLE GAME, that got me pretty upset. But I just find it harder to see everything, case in point, when EJ Henderson got hurt in Arizona. I had no idea who was injured, what happened or anything, after a few minutes we finally figured out it was Henderson, but I didn't see the play until I got back to Calgary.
But I can definitely see why people enjoy the games more than the couch.

I might be down for that if I have the money for it. I wish the Eagles we facing Packers at home, that would be a game I would go to.

You need someone who is watching the game on tv to instant message you to let you know what is happening. My wife does it all the time when I'm at Flames games. She will tell me if a goal is good or not while it is being reviewed. If a player has left the bench due to injury. Its actually pretty handy.
