Anyhow have any idea how centre street is doing right now? My dad's about to get off soon and he's wondering.

Can't say absolutely for sure, but Edmonton Trail is closed at the hill. The #3 bus was diverted onto Deerfoot as of about 90 minutes ago, so I believe that road was closed, and may still be.

Why do some people always complain about bad drivers when the roads get slippery? The roads are very very slippery out there today.

On a hill in Silver Springs I saw a bus that looked like it slid backwards after trying to go up the long hill. It eventually stopped. Behind the bus on the hill were 6 vehicles all squished together. I can only assume the bus pushed them all back into each other.

About 20 people were just standing around. No injuries but I would assume a couple thousand damage to each vehicle.

Terrible 30 minute usually reliable trip turned into 2hrs.

Ice rink all the way, and even saw a stuck bus.

For you automatic people, don't use D, use 2, as that skips the 1st gear entirely and allows for greater control of your wheel spin. Keep the rev's low, and most FWD's will creep forward. Ice spikes would be ideal for road conditions, or, just stay home.

Pity those who live in the NW or north of town. Definitely not pretty out there. Would have been better if there was snow still on the ground, but it was ice pretty much everywhere north of 16th.

Slowly made it through, as a crash backed up Memorial. Got to 26th to pull into the BPs, only to find 26th was closed due to another crash. So right back onto Barlow we go, up to 16th and head West to a little pizza place. Nearly every single road south of 8th Avenue was closed due to icy conditions, including Centre St. and Edmonton Trail. Took us over 2 hours to find a place to eat. Thank god for Peter Marher!

The north is a complete fustercluck. The south is fine.
So you got to spend quality time with FireFly?

And ya I'm sure the Fan960 got HUGE ratings this evening. Plus a Flames win!

---

Can't blame bad drivers tonight, it's so slick nobody can do anything other than go about 2km/hr.

Almost 5 hours to get home from downtown to the west end of the city, including sitting for about 20 minutes while my bus was sideways across Bow Trail. Bow Trail was closed both ways west of Sarcee most of the evening; eastbound was still closed when I went by with cars off the road all along the side (I'm guessing at least 60).

My dad works right in Chinatown so he more or is just worried about Centre street. As far as I can hear on 660news, any road going northbound is a fustercluck. And thank you Resolute 14 for the wonderful new word.

I'd like to thank CP ... my wife drove home with our new(ish) baby tonight from her sisters and said the snow tires CP convinced me to get made a huge difference. Last year we had incredible problems with anything like this.

10th street hill at confed. park is clear of traffic now. Walked back down there to grab my car. There are a couple cars abandoned up at the top of the hill still but if your careful going down you should have no problem.

Woo. It took me only 14 minutes to get from SAIT to Marketmall. I LOVE my nokians!!

On that note my cousin is drving a Shaw van. he has been stuck on John Laurie for 5 hours and in that time he has only made it from Shaganappi to the edge of Mcknight! hahahaha. He isn't even on mcknight yet. What a loser. i told him to get out of there but he wouldn't listen.

The road into my neighbourhood in the SE was a skating rink, and some people had clearly almost hit the parked cars at the turn. The driveway at my parents house in Woodbine was so slippery my car was sliding down in park, and it's only a slight incline.

I really really hope it's not this bad tomorrow. Please melt or something.

If the number 3 was heading up Deerfoot, Centre is virtually guaranteed to be a complete mess. That was nearly two hours ago now though.

I have snow tires on. There is no way that I would drive today without snow tires.

Great, thanks for the update. I just let my dad know. I've only been driving for 5 years. Have any of you seen anything this bad before? I'm literally sitting here listening to 660, reading this forum and then calling my dad with traffic updates.

Went up Centre ST around 7:30 and there were 2 stuck vehicles, a GMC pickup on the Centre St. Bridge and the 301 on the hill. Probably should have cleared up, but there are definitely close to zero traction spots on the bridge.

I live on 29 st sw on a hill. It's not a massive 14th st hill, but it's decent. I shovelled between the first and 2nd periods and it was turning into a gong show. The road always ices up but in the 12 years I've been here I've never seen it this bad. I called 311 and was informed the sanding trucks were out, they were just in traffic. The neighbours and I spent most of the game out trying to persuade people from going up and down the hill. 3/4 of the people going up would spin out, stop, and then begin a slow roll/slide down the hill. I ended up opening my living room curtains so I could watch the game through the window.

There is some old Honda on the street today none of the neighbours own which ended up being the sacrificial car. I think it got hit at least a half dozen times. Including some dufus in his Cayenne who ignored us directing him onto the side street at the top of the hill and proceeded to slide, spin, and side swipe the Honda. To this driver I feel no sympathy.

And to the lady in the PT Cruiser who got stuck part way up, got sideways, and then slide down the hill while she slowly rotated and then "made the port" between two cars, you win the best impersonation of a curling rock award.

Mrs Furnace said east bound Bow trail was ridiculous, people were just sliding everywhere around the crowchild underpass. She saw a flatbed tow truck with car on the bed in full 4 wheel skid. The Nokians got her home though.

Kensington is a war zone tonight. Never seen anything like it. Nothing could get up or down 10th st and 14th st. The streets are slick ice. Women are falling crossing the street. A school bus slid sideways down the hill.
