The panic surrounding this is just crazy. I'm not getting the shot for the simple reason the odds of me being taken out by H1N1 are so small as to be of no consequence to me. I know people who've had it and say it's just a nasty dose of flu. People are just getting totally carried away by watching too much news.

CALGARY - Alberta Health Minister Ron Liepert warned Friday that Alberta may run out of H1N1 flu vaccinations by next week if public demand continues at its current pace, which could force the government to close some vaccination clinics.

In a radio interview Friday, Liepert said the provincial government is going through about 50,000 doses a day, and has used more than 200,000 total doses since the program began this week.

The government received a fresh batch of the vaccine on Thursday, building up their total supply to 600,000 doses, but Liepert said there could be shortages if the current demand continues.
Quote:
Alberta Liberal Leader David Swann, in Calgary on Friday, assailed the government for botching the rollout of the vaccination program.

The province can't be blamed for the production of the vaccine, but should have been more prepared in how it administers it to Albertans, believing there should have been a greater focus on initially vaccinating high-risk Albertans.

Go to High River or other outlying ones, I regret not doing

I was there too today. Took me about 3 hours to get thru. I got there anoud 8am.

Ok... lets stop beating about the bush and trying to upset anybody or hurt anybodies feelings.

If you don't get the H1N1 vaccine you could die. If you die, may you rest in peace. (yes, yes... I know there are lots of reasons/arguments on why you may die... but this reason is preventable)

If you don't die, you may get very very ill.

If you get the flu because you did not get the vaccination, you may not die, but you could possibly spread it to someone else who does die. If you cause someone else to die, may you rot in ****.

.... and all this because you were foolish, or stupid, or lazy, or stubborn, or overly cautious, or any combination of the aforementioned.

There... I've said it. Let the winds of fury begin!!! Bring it on all you naysayers and disbelievers!

Experts feel the 'walking backwards girl' (from earlier in the thread) seems to not be suffering from a physical reaction to the vaccine.

"The movements and symptoms that Ms. Jennings displays on the public videos I have seen (linked to above) are not compatible with the diagnosis of dystonia, or any other movement disorder."

I bet that if you offered those people a chance to get a shot that would have been able to prevent them from dying they would have all agreed to take it.

And I bet that those 400 plus people who died last year on Alberta's highways would have driven more cautiously had they been give the chance to do it again, what's your point?

Are you trying to say that death is preventable when you exercise caution? That's not anything new to anybody.

A few unrelated points:
1) Bad math, it is really .01%.
2) Comparing it to highway deaths does not make it sound like a small number. Dying in a car crash is really about the most realistic chance a young healthy person has of dying. If 400 otherwhise healthy Albertans died of this, this year, that is a pretty big tragedy, I'd say.
3) All this talk of selfish... wouldn't you only be killing other selfish people who didn't get the vaccine? Wouldn't the less selfish thing to do is not get one until all the high risk group people get them?

People who become ill with the flu and spread it to someone else may very well cause that person's death.
They may also die themselves.

To believe otherwise is akin to sticking your head in the sand. The facts are the facts. Just because you say it ain't so doesn't mean it isn't. People will die, and have died, because of the H1N1 flu. Thats a fact. I also suspect that 99% percent of those people were not vaccinated.

I completely agree with Swann here. High risk people should have got the vaccine first. The PC's totally screwed that up.

No it isn't (according to the vast majority of medical advice currently available).
Get a flu shot. Only then you can say that it should be good enough.

P.S. Continue to do the other stuff too.

Since the vaccine doesn't guarantee that you will become immune (I think it is a 90% probability if you get the one with the adjucant) then even if you have done everything you can do you may still get it. But if a significant portion of the population gets immunized then even if your immunization didn't "work" there is a good chance the immunity of everyone else will prevent the virus from getting to you (it is called herd immunity, and I believe you need 70% of the population or greater to be immunized).
