OJ Simpson was convicted as a criminal, Michael Jackson was not. We have not determined if either OJ Simpson or Michael Jackson was a sociopath. I was saying that OJ has been accused of being one because of how he lived after the murders.
I'm not sure where all this OJ simpson stuff being convicted as a criminal stuff is coming from. He was convicted for robbery recently, and than prior to that, civily from the family regarding the deaths but he was never convicted criminally of the double homicide he was alleged to have committed.

Just as people believe that he is guilty of the acts, I believe most people have the same stance on Michael Jackson.

And in regards to the sociopath, maybe sociopath is the wrong word to describe Michael Jackson. But to say he's a normal person and not a little messed up in the head is quite the stretch IMO.

I don't hate the guy, I've never met him so who am I to say what he was like. But with the allegations against him, whether he was convicted or not, makes me very hesitant to be sympathetic for him.

Luckily they got Kenny back. He is shocked and saddened and believes he was a wonderful talent.

Cher on now -- she is shocked and saddened and believes he was a wonderful talent.

They keep running this funny clip of the Jackson 5 and Diana Ross playing. Michael Jackson was maybe 8 years old and he's boogieing in front of Diana and she yanks him by the arm and throws him out of the way and gets herself front and center.

Cher is now telling a story about being at a party with Val Kilmer and he was wearing a pair of handmade beaded socks that Bob Mackie gave her for Christmas. Michael was at the party and he was just a kid and he was fascinated with the socks.

Liz Taylor released a statement saying "she's too devastated to make a statement".

This is surreal.

Cutting off ear and mailing it = kinda crazy

Pretty damning circumstancial evidence you're a pedo = baaaaaad.

Not trying to jump in too much, I'm not "glad" the guy's dead, but imo he had some weird stuff going on. Didn't he pay out a bunch of hush money to accusers over the years? Simplest answer is the right one right? To me the simple answer is dude was effed in the head and prolly did some bad stuff.

Yup, pretty insignificant. Don't know why he even bothered....

Many well put statements in this thread that I've thanked.....and just as many pointless comments.

This is one of the most prolific deaths I've seen of a music icon in my life.

700 million seems pretty high even for all his works combined.

Album sales are difficult to track accurately but I'd be surprised if the 100M mark is even true for Thriller.

JAckson was to pop/mainstream/motown what Elvis was to Rock & Roll and Cash was to Country. Probably bigger than Cash (sorry, trout). The guy was on a different level than everyone else.

Funny, last night I read a thread that introduced me to Victor Wooten (bass playing thread?). So I read his bio and one of his signature lines was to the effect of "you don't look at a person's mouth when they're speaking, you listen to what they say". It was his way of describing how he creates music and how the instrument doesn't create the music, the player does.
Anyway, I thought something similar while watching the Billie Jean video posted earlier. MJ doesn't just dance, he moves with the music. He's a talent that is no comparable to a football player. Not comparable to much anyone, except maybe Elvis. Except that Elvis played the guitar.

The official Michael Jackson website is claiming 750 million records sold over his lifetime. I imagine that includes singles.

Found this very interesting.

How the fake Michael Jackson news scooped everyone.

Quote:
Shortly after news reports surfaced that pop star Michael Jackson was taken to the hospital with cardiac arrest, someone posted a fake news story that he had died. (Here's a screen capture of that story.) The story was created on a Web site called "Fake a Wish - Celeb Fake News Generator." The fake news story appeared to have been published by a Global Associated News, which doesn't actually exist. Twitter tweets linking to the fake story were exceeding 10 per second for more than a half hour. At some point, the site TMZ reported an un-sourced story that Jackson had died.

Admit it, when you hear the rap section in "Black or White" all you can see in your mind is Macauly Culkin. Wrecks it for me too.

Whoa there. I think you need to go look at that Moonwalker video posted in this very thread somewhere around page six or so.
He performs with no flashy lights on a basic auditorium stage. No light show, smoke, mirrors, topless whores, gimmicky dancers, or anything other than and empty stage and one black dood in a flashy jacket with a microphone and a god given gift to sing and dance and emote.

Maybe a lot of the shows were huge lights, pyro, multiple dance crews, blah blah blah, but his early work, and especially the mentioned video are prime examples of what his magic was. He didn't need any of it.

And you had the nerve to use the emoticon while composing and posting the above quoted "crap".

The person who grew up inside the singular weirdness that was Graceland also thought Michael Jackson was "too weird."

There's no doubt that Michael was a weirdo, and a supremely talented man.

When I hear people who are just so convinced of his guilt regarding the abuse of children, I can't help but think of the story recently of the cab driver being accused of sexually assaulting those three girls. Had he not had it on tape, he would have forever been branded a rapist or some such thing whether or not he was found innocent or guilty. Michael Jackson was not found guilty of any criminal wrong-doing. Get over it. He was bat-poop crazy, no doubt, but to convince yourself and try to convince others that he was a known pedophile is ludicrous. Is it possible he was guilty? I guess, but I certainly have no proof and neither do any of you. Is it possible he was innocent? You're an asshat if you can't at least admit it's possible unless of course you yourself were molested by him or you personally witnessed someone else molested by him, or you have some other critical piece of evidence in your posession that was for some reason unavailable to the courts.

Whew, that turned into more of a rant than I intended!

Michael was a pretty cool dude in his day. It's too bad that he went as strange as he did, and he will be missed. I'd of loved to see him make a comeback and get himself together. He was certainly a tormented soul.

I'm usually one of the last people to get offended by offhanded comments about death, celebrities, and pop culture...I often just don't care. I was never a Michael Jackson fan and never really will be...some of his songs I like, but overall...meh.

But reading some of the garbage in this thread and similar threads in the past few months on this board has surprised me to the point of actually making a post about it. I can't believe how many classless individuals there are on here...shocking actually. I always thought of the community here to be of pretty high intelligence, which usually goes hand-in-hand with tact.
