No French required, brother!

We could campaign on the benefits of having soup labels with large text and more room, and not having to wait through a 30 second voice prompt just to hit "1 for English!"

Brilliant Platform, count me in!

I'm sure we can get 308 CP'ers here to run in each riding!

Holy over exaggeration Batman! Riddled with scandal after scandal? There was the sponsorship scandal. Everyone so quickly forgets the Cadman affair plaguing Harper.

I think you need some stats to support this because I can guarantee there have been periods of significantly greater dissatisfaction.

The people are happy with the government? Really? The fact that the Conservatives could not get a majority shows that people are scared to give them too much power.

It's your prerogative to suggest whatever you want. Troutman posted an excellent opinion piece which really talks about the root of this problem. The Conservatives have only themselves to blame.

Unfortunately because this has become so political, the proper solution cannot be had.

Sure it can...

for the 3rd time in this thread, 1st time yesterday, i say this and wonder if anyone from the left will respond.

I propose there should be an election at the end of January and the NDP/Liberals/Bloc run a campaign based on creating a coalition, since I watched their leaders sit in front of the flags of all provinces and territories this afternoon and proclaim " it is in the best interests of Canada" that they do so.

Let the chips fall where they may after that. And should Harper fail to get a majority, he shoudl agree to resign and go to the backbench.

From the globe article

Quote:
The coalition agreement calls for an economic stimulus package including infrastructure spending; money for housing; aid to key sectors such as manufacturing; auto and forestry sectors; funding for skills training; and support for unemployed older workers.
But Mr. Dion said leaders could not say when stimulus details would be revealed, or how much the plan would cost, arguing they do not yet know when they would take power and have not seen the country's hidden fiscal details.
I think if they're going to take over government they should be held to a higher standard and release the details of not only their package, but how they plan to pay for it because right now, this sounds like they don't have a specific plan.

Doesnt make any sense though...as Duceppe, Layton and Dion are responsible for ALL of this, but its whether you blame them for doing so or not.

Do you?

Sure, I would be happy to have this. Essentially the NDP or Liberal would remove a candidate from each riding and have only one representing (the one that has the best chance to win).

I would be game for that. This is essentially a Liberal-NDP government, I think this is a good way of measuring what Canadians want.

3 polls basically ask who you support to govern...the Tories or coalition.

2 of the polls are at about 70:30 against the coalition (ctv, sun). 1 poll is about 55:45 against the coalition (Globe).

The other poll (the Star) is worded as whether you feel Harper is right in calling this undemocratic. Different question. Now under this system it is "democractic" ..moral is a different story. That poll is about 48:50:2 (No:yes:don't know).

I think if a real poll were done we'd be in that 65% range against the coalition.

Of course they don't...how could they since they just agreed yesterday for all intents and purposes.

yet, they are claiming they are hijacking the government for THAT EXACT SAME REASON...that Harper has no plan.

Its so fraeking hyppocritical its a joke.

So you put no blame on Harper for putting a completely partisan footnote on a mini-budget intending to bankrupt the opposition? Essentially trying to govern like a majority in a minority mandate?

I just can't see how you don't recognize how this all could have been avoided.

Oh they have a plan, it just doesn't have anything to do with Stimulus packages or anything like that. If it did they would have actual details worked out instead of "we're thinking about it and we have 4 wise men who'll tell us what to do." Which, after all is not different than what the Tories said. The same Tories that were so reprehensibly irresponsible to not include a Stimulus package in an update that they needed to be toppled.
