Sirius nuked their classic hip hop station (Backspin) without replacing it. I wouldn't be surprised if XM had some similar situations.

I also enjoyed Ethel (new Ethel isn't nearly as good as it used to be), Lucy, Fred and Squizz. I feel like XM users got the shaft, all this talk about the merger not affected anything was BS and this is all to benefit Sirius in the end. It's like they didn't care, just cut production to save as much money as possible and through up replacements that weren't even close.

I'm going to cancel and perhaps revisit satellite radio in a couple of years, maybe they will have worked it out by then.
Squizz and Ethel were both good stations. The punk station thing sucks too. It took years to get it to Canada and then they got rid of it.

As a person with Sirius, I'm disliking the merger in the present but am hoping my gripes (not likely) will be alleviated. The fact I can't get best of NHL here sucks, as well they took away a station Boombox, which played lots of new breakbeats and some decent mashups (more bb than mashups which is fine by me).

Basically they replaced all electronic music stations and uniformed them to 2, which makes me upset cause if I wanna listen to some breakbeats I have to go through some really bad trance. It would be like having to listen to Blink 182 and Maroon 5 and hoping your Rolling Stones and White Stripes will come on once in a while, for me anyways...

They did it with something fringe (less fringe than some of my music obviously) by taking away punk stations and such. Part of the appeal of sattelite radio for me is the idea I can listen to some underground music on a channel mixed in with more popular stuff. Although the rock stations are pretty good IMO and aren't underrepresented. Sorry boot da gramr guyz.

But I'm going to be with Sirius for as long as Stern is on 100 and 101, just an awesome show you have to follow, I'm hooked!

What, Backspin's gone?? Lame! That was #7 on my memory list. I do like the new 90's on 9 station though. The Pulse was basically a 90's station anyways, but I find this new one much better. I listened to it in the car for about 20 mins today and I felt like I was playing one of my old CD's from junior high.

the one station i miss as a Sirius subscriber is Buzzsaw, they played some really good heavier classic rock. other than that my main station (Hard Attack) is the exact same except with a different name (Liquid Metal) and my other presets didn't change so i'm not bothered that much. don't really care for any of the new XM additions that i've listened to though

Backspin was my #3 preset, it was really the only hiphop station I listened to.

I've tried listening to 90's on 9, and all it has done is remind me of how much bad wanna-be R&B there was in the 90's. Some of it has been decent, but too much Power Trax kind of stuff for my liking. Plus I haven't heard any grunge on there... how can you be representative of the 90's without grunge!

Lithium, channel 24. 90's rock and grunge, my 3rd preset. it's nice to throw that on and go back to my highschool days

I think the biggest worry for XM and Sirius subscribers is the company surviving. In the first quarter of 2009 the company has One Billion in dept payments due. The stock has fallen to $0.25 per share. The company does have 18 million subscribers, but will that number increase if new subscribers are leery about signing up if the company is bankrupt within the next 6 months? New car sales are way down which also will limit the number of new subscribers.

I hope the company makes it through the next half a year. I can't imagine having to go back to listening to terrestrial radio.

Agreed, that's my #1 preset actually. But I still need my 90's hiphop fix from somewhere too. They've left that gap wide open!

Yea, I agree with this, how low does a stock go before it gets delisted?

I'm not sure. The stock price is down to $0.16 right now. I did read an article that stated that Sirius/Xm was in danger of being delisted.

Edit: My boss just told me anything under a dollar could be delisted but it is allowed to be under a buck for a certain amount of time (he wasn't sure how long).

with such a large startup investment, this is one of those products that will take many more years to become profitable. but if Sirius/XM does go under i can't see the service dying, some company with big enough pockets will buy them up. satellite radio is so much more superior than standard FM that the subscriber base will always continue to go steadily up, a company like Sony or Microsoft just needs to get involved so that they can take the losses for the long enough time until it gets out of the red

Preach on brother! I was forced into some terrestrial for a bit and it was torturous!

I hope that they sell a bunch of radios over Christmas and get through this downtime in the markets. After the next 4-6 months they should be OK....I hope!

I do miss backspin...that was one of my faves, but once we get hockey I'll be fine between Howard and the NHL!
