Well that's just like, your opinion man.
Personally I think In Rainbows is one of the best albums of 2007. Together with Because of the Times by Kings of Leon and We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank by Modest Mouse, I thoroughly enjoyed the 'underground smart rock' of last year, as someone complained about here.

I cannot believe that people can say they can't STAND the Beatles, they can't STAND the Stones, they can't STAND Pink Floyd. They've made countless sof ongs on numerous albums, I won't believe for a second that there aren't at least a few songs that even the haters will dig or find swinging. If you actually hate everything The Beatles have made, I'm sorry but I'll have to conclude that you don't have any taste in music.

But this has zero about taste in music though, and more about tolerance levels. Nobody said anything about hating every single song in a bands catalog, but rather great bands you can't stand. There's many reasons why people becomes less tolerant of bands and surprisingly in a lot of the cases it has nothing to do with the music at all. Sometimes it's over exposer, sometimes people just rile against whatever is popular, maybe they are just pissed that that ugly bass player gets more ass then they do.. who knows.

Afterall someone here listed Frank Zappa, whom happens to be one of the greatest musical genius of our time. The actual music that he composed happens to be far to advanced for the majority of the music listeners and just as difficult for the accomplished musician to play... does that mean he should be saved from this list, hell no. There will always be a group of listeners that just for whatever reason don't get what the artist is putting down... so much so that their tolerance levels will lower to the point that they can no longer stand what they are hearing

Haha that is exactly what happened to me too. They starting playing this Coheed and Cambria song on 92.9, initial opening sounded good, so it had my attention... then the dude started singing.

I have a very low tolerance for the Rolling Stones. And on that note, I present one of my favourite musical "tributes" written by an obscure artist named Michael Knott.

"Skinny Bones Jones"

What's up with this band
It's been around forever
Played New York City
before most the world was born
Made it big, made it bigger, made it biggest
Then it keeps on comin' back
all tattered and torn

Skinny bones Jones
Skinny bones Jones
Do you have to sell your souls
to stay bigger than gold?
Skinny bones Jones
Skinny bones Jones
Do you have to sell your soul
to be Rollin' Stones?

There can be no generation gap
as long as you're alive
We'll die before you do
This history is shown
When your skin falls off
It won't bother you a bit
You'll have brand new hits

Skinny bones Jones
Skinny bones Jones
Do you have to sell your souls
to stay bigger than gold?
Skinny bones Jones
Skinny bones Jones
Do you have to sell your souls
to be Rollin' Stones?

You make more money in a minute
than most men make in their lives
off the juke box alone
And when you're tired of abusin'
you get a blood transfusion
And you're back up and groovin'
for another show

Skinny bones Jones
Skinny bones Jones
Do you have to sell your souls
to stay bigger than gold?
Skinny bones Jones
Skinny bones Jones
Do you have to sell your souls
to be Rollin' Stones?

Ok while I respect opinions and all but this thread is meant to encourage discussion.

How can you possibly defend Dylan's songwriting (which i can agree is legendary even though I'm not a HUGE fan) but say you can't stand Clapton.

Clapton does stuff all over the place, all sorts of different genres, but yes, I admit I don't get overly enthused by him at all aside from when I play the Layla solo on my guitar.

Meanwhile his album Pilgrim is some of the most unapologetically bland Adult Contemporary dreck you'll ever hear.

I eleventh that motion. With almost all of the other bands mentioned, I also can't stand them, but that's only because they've been overplayed to death. Radiohead, on the other hand, I have never liked. They provoke the same reaction in me that listening to my five-year-old whining does.

Why should it? I mean most people agree that the singles chosen are usually the best tracks that the band has to offer.

I highly doubt anyone here would change their mind after listening to a couple of the rejects. More likely they would hate the band even more.

Well, good bands don't make singles, they make albums. That's the difference. Casual music fans like hit singles, the "best" artists don't deliver that.

Sure, you can take a track from a great album and it works on the radio, but that doesn't mean that is how the music should be listened to.

Maybe that is the divide between the casual, top-40 loving music fan, and the music snobs? I hear people say all the time "Oh, I don't want to spend $20 on an album that has only one or two songs I like on it." None of the music snob people I know ever say that, because the music they are in to is about albums, not hit songs.

I am absolutely mystified when it comes to this band and the devotion shown to them by their fans.

No kidding. Their stuff is nothing more than...OK.

That being said I employ a guy who was a dead-head for a couple years in his early 20's and it seems the whole thing was much more about the drugs/comraderie/party than the music itself.

I understand everyone has their own likes and dislikes about music in general and older bands in particular. It befuddles me that anyone can "hate" a band like Pink Floyd though. There just doesn't seem to be anything there that could offend...be it musically/lyrically/otherwise.

Bwa-ha. Nice one.

Radiohead is a funny one. I'm a big fan and have all their records but yeah, I can understand the "whining" description and I even get why people don't like them, even though I do.
