Default Huge signatures..

Noticing they are getting out of control for some. One guy, MattyC, has an entire post in his. Makes some threads unbareable at times.

For an example, read the start of the Pronger new ducks captain thread. Oilfan#81, foofighter15, MattyC, all with huge signatures that clutter up a thread way too much.

Isn't there some sort of guideline?

If they are bigger than the required size....the mods usually delete them.

I agree MattyC has a massive sig quote. Foofighters is just a little cluttered, not huge and we all know what's wrong with OilFans sig.

I know there is a set limit on the dimensions of image signature files, but I'm unsure if there's any stipulations regarding plain text sigs. If there's not, maybe there should be? The mods'll do the right thing.

From the guidelines:

Quote:
Signatures must be no larger than 400px wide by 150px tall. Some extra text is ok, but try to keep it about that high. Signature file sizes should be about 200KB maximum, though if you have an excellent animated one that's under 1MB we may consider allowing it.

Yeah this is something we should probably look at, though I'm not sure what kind of wording we could make.

Something that is 150px high total would be good in my mind, but hard to enforce with a combination of images and text.

Totally agreed.

Last discussion on this can be found here. Worth the read.

I am almost to the point where I would vote to ban sigs completely. The readability of the forums is suffering, ESPECIALLY to those that just come to lurk and do not have the ability to turn off sigs. Signature in profile, yes. Signature in any posts... no. Too abused.

They are looking juvenile in their gaudiness.

I think that the option exists to turn of sigs is enough for those that don't like them.. signing up and turning it off takes a short amount of time if they really don't want the sigs.

Actually Photon, I think if you polled people here, most wouldn't even know they had that option. Just food for thought.

How'bout custom titles in lieu of sigs?

I didn't realize mine was that big. I could trim it if needed.

I don't think we need to get rid of the sigs, just clean up some of the big text ones.

Changed.

How do I make the signature smaller? It says it has to be 400 x 150. This one is 460 x 235. Thanks in advance.

You can shrink it in MS Paint. Copy paste, then re-size.

Another option is lose all the goofy looking guys in the pic.
