6 more years at 6.5 per year will take him to his age 37 season. That would be the opposite of what we want to do.

Yeah if it was 4 more years at that ticket and the Blues enticed Calgary to take the cap hit then maybe.

Just because so many if you were wrong doesn't mean this outcome was unpredictable and this is just hindsight being 20/20.

Ohhhhh.
So let me get this straight. Huberdeau put up 115 points and "many" people were predicting a drop in points?
lol no kidding. Many people really going out on a limb with that prediction. Of course there would be a drop from an massive number like that.
Show me one person predicting he'd drop to 50 points though.

I used to think David Pagnotta / 4th Period were somewhat reliable, but as of late not so much. Not sure he's broken anything of note recently (as in the past few years).

Leafs ownership won't care. It's just whatever appeases the fanbase for a few weeks. Then they just add more forwards at the deadline. They're like the Oilers, but with more money and more ignorance.. Maybe not the last one

Media predicting a drop off from a 115 point season is a pretty low bar to trot out as a got yah.
For the most part the media was on the Flames hype train though and it was the most hyped they have been in a long time.
https://www.nhl.com/news/stanley-cup...ason-336050052
Contrarian opinions always exist but the prevalent opinion was that the Flames would be fighting for the division/conference and not a wildcard team. If 'many' people were saying the Flames were a wild card team even more were saying they were not.

I think it would be a disaster if the Flames traded for Parayko, I just stated he is an Alberta kid and the NTC in his contract wouldn't necessarily be used to save the Flames from themselves.

It would. Like Bingo said if it was a shorter deal with something attached it might be worth it, but just to take him on with that nasty deal no thank you.
At times it feels like this team can't keep themselves from wasting cap space on anyone.
Noah didn't take the deal lets just find a player to trade for who is much worse and fill that gap.
Sitting out sometimes is the best option.
Its the 4th Period and Pagnotta who are pretty bad so hopefully its just a bad take, but a scary thought.

Not calling you out for name calling.
For disparaging the other side of an argument.
It's weak as hell.

Parayko has been linked to CGY before. Even before the Tkachuk trade. So it's not impossible. But man, 6.5m cap hit until 2029/30 and his 36th birthday? That's a lot of meat on the bone.

More 4th period stuff. Mentions the Flames have had more chats around their blueline. The Devils are a team in contact. Also mentions Weegar was in the rumors last year and teams are still interested but he has a full no trade. I would be shocked if they entertained moving Weegar right now

Yeah, the only way I see Weegar moved is if there's a scorched Earth rebuild...and I don't think any of us believe that's what they'll end up doing (...whether it's warranted or not)

Organizational depth will be severely tested once Tanev and Hanafin are moved. The team has to ice some NHL caliber defensemen so I don't see Weegar being moved as his contract is decent and he wants to be here.

Poirier needs to come back and get some AHL games in so he can hopefully be ready for some NHL games after they move Hanifin and Tanev

6'6" right hand shot D-man - Blues fly-under-the-radar "secret" weapon - what can possibly go wrong besides the $6.5M cap hit for another 6 years and him being Butler soft? LOL
Why the Blues should trade Colton Parayko (and also why it’s unlikely)
He could possibly be a replacement for Hanifin with a right shot that replaces Tanev.

I'd say no one not on an ELC is untouchable at this point. I also wouldn't be trying to trade Weegar, but if someone was going to overpay by a lot, then fine. He'll be an old man buy the time this team has a chance to seriously contend.

I don't mind a veteran Defense corps backing up a wolf/vladar tandem plus a young forward group. Defensemen take longer to develop unless you get a Makar type right out of the box
Weegar popping up in rumors only makes sense because other teams are inquiring, I'd be surprised if the Flames are entertaining anything involving weegar unless it's a grand slam homerun trade .
