Hey. At least it’s a plan with thinking beyond just one year.

Depends. I’ve voiced my opinion before that if lindholm or hanifin get traded it won’t be a complete futures deal. IMO it’s going to be more of a hockey trade .

I think if Lindholm, Backs and Noah all want out then a rebuild will be "forced". If two of the three stay then we are going to see a hockey trade.

Hanifin for Marchenko and Peeke is definitely intriguing, I think Huska could do a great job with Peeke, right handed dman with size who was rushed a bit in Columbust. Give him some sheltered minutes to round out his game working with a guy like Huska who has a good track record with young D and you could see another level unlocked in Peeke.

I don't think Colombus has any appetite of moving either Johnson or Marchenko for 1 year of Hanifin. Especially since they just got Provorov.

No trade is going to be for 1 year, any early trade prior to the deadline is going to come with an extension, so don’t worry about that.
Both the player and teams interested want commitment if it happens before deadline day.

Okay what makes you think that Hanifin wants to sign an extension in Colombus? If he wanted to sign there anyways, then why wouldn't they just wait the year. It's not like Colombus is competing for a cup this year.
Also, they already have Werenski, and Provorov taking the two LD spots in their top 4.
Most of the UFAs this year actually want to test the market, because of the large salary bump. I'm pretty sure that most agents would be encouraging their players to wait, unless they can cash in on an 8 year contract like Lindholm.

Seems like outside of the question mark around Lindholm, and Hanifin's decision, there is confidence in ability to re-sign other UFAs pending season progression.
|
I'm good with that, but I think the Flames need to make the whatever "internal deadline" they want to set, line up with when they expect they can get the best return, or what they need to do to ensure they maximise return.
The hard part with trading any of those players, at the deadline, would be having the will to still do it if the Flames are in a playoff spot but they aren't signed. I feel like though Conroy and crew need to be willing to do that if they believe that's when they can get the best return if they remain un-signed. I get the "emotional" up and down that would cause for the fans, and players, but this is a unique situation, and you need to do what you must if a deadline trade is likely to get the best return.

I never said Columbus, I said he’s looking for a long term move not short term.
Why would Columbus entice him? We’ll he’s good friends with Johnny for 1, and just like I could see him sign in Florida too as Matthew is there.

Once a player gets close to UFA, they tend to wait to sign, unless they get traded to the exact team they want.
Once the season starts, the odds favour a rental trade.

I thought you continued on my response to Heavy Jack, where I mentioned the 1 year. That's why I continued mentioning CBJ.

Peeke is turning 26 this year, don’t think he is a young dman. That would be a pretty bad trade, a 5/6 dman and a 23 year old middling forward.
The Flames equivalent would be giving up Rucizka and Stecher (if we still had him) for Hanifin.

You are really underrating Marchenko.

Marchenko and Ruzika are not in the same stratosphere as far as I’ve seen.
One guy looks like he’s dangerous every time he’s on the ice the other looks like he’s a danger to the popcorn supply in the press box.

Marchenko IMO is an excellent prize in return for Hanifin. That shapes the winger group soundly.
LW:
Huberdeau
Mangiapane
Pelletier
Dube
C:
LINDHOLM
Kadri
Backlund
Roz
RW:
Marchenko
Coronato
Sharangovich
Dueher
Now cmon. That's tight.

Now, as far as consistency goes, absolutely , no argument.
But I can't deny that for that month and a half that Ruzicka actually played up to his potential last year, I don't know if the Flames had a better Player. If Roz could do what he did night in and night out over an 82 game pace. We'd have another top 6 center.
But yes Marchenko is a beast, nightly.
