Correct he's been playing RW on a line with Timo Meier.
They've been rotating centers on that line after McLeod left the team. Most recently it's been Lazar.
This is also why I think the Devils should be in on Adam Henrique.

There is a spot on the wing beside Backlund when they trade Mangiapane.
Plus I would think that based on age that Kuzmenko would be shopped at the draft.

Yeah. I think the most important part of it is that I've always felt Lebrun and Friedman are the most reliable paid reporters. And their reports sounds quite similar. Neither says Markstrom was asked to waive. Both say retention was an issue. The report(s) that Markstrom waived from Seravalli (and I believe Steinberg) conflict with that.
So, now I personally feel a little less sure about what's going on...

If there's a trade for Markstrom alone. I'd be happy 1 for 1 for Mercer.
If it's Holtz +1st? I'd take that too and be very very happy.
With 3 1st round picks the Flames can just as easily go shopping for a center whilst keeping their own pick.

Center more likely to be drawn to the defensive end vs. wingers. An extreme example being Lindholm on that line with Tkachuk/Gaudreau a couple years ago and coming out with 80 points while the other 2 came out with 100+.
I did run a quick calc on overall 2023-24 5v5 p/60 by position (exported stats from moneypuck) which confirmed it, but the skew is a lot closer then what I imagined:
Centers - 1.619 5v5 p/60
Wingers - 1.657 5v5 p/60
