Gaudreau ia a sure-fire NHLer IMO.
Whether he becomes a star is another question.

We'll see. This is all moot anyway, because that pick isn't going to be traded.

People are suggesting Gaudreau plus our #5 (or whatever) pick
stupid.
And then in 5 years, if Ekblad turns into Johnson?

At this point I don't care about asset management with Gaudreau.
If he doesn't play at least one season wearing a Flames and/or Heat Jersey...

Yes I know that's the suggestion, I agreed with it. Ekblad might turn into Johnson for sure, Reinhart should be a pretty good NHL'er though.
I just don't know about Gaudreau, I'd love to see how he pans out, but if we can move him for a blue chip, I think it's worth the risk.

You have been one of the least positive about Gaudreau all along (which is fine - it's an opinion like all others).
IMO, trading Gaudreau (in a deal like that) would be a huge mistake - I am more confident that he will be a star than any other prospect in our system - even Monahan (though Monahan has a very high floor and will almost certainly be a decent player, even if he doesn't become a star).
I think it is far more likely that Gaudreau becomes a star than Ekblad does.

Hardly. I'm just not as bullish on him as others.

Weisbrod had nothing to do with the Flames drafting Gaudreau. He's the one who said they were upset at the Boston table when the Flames called his name because he was still with the Bruins.

If you can go from 5 to 1 by giving up Gaudreau you 100% do it and the team being 1 would be crazy to take that
someone posted this awhile ago
http://www.broadstreethockey.com/201...lue-trading-up
it's essentially trading two 5th overall picks for 1st overall, Gaudreau would not go 5th overall in this draft, college players are like overaged CHL players
you can 'really like' a player, but it's just a value thing, you come out with more value on that deal way over 50% of the time, it's eV is insanely high
Justin Schultz was supposed to be an immediate PP weapon and top pairing d man, he's a liability

It seems obvious but you don't think about trading a player like Gaudreau until you've seen him play vs. professionals...no one has a handle on his potential NHL ceiling...this goes for Flames as it does for other teams.

What happens if Ekblad turns into a Norris winner and Gaudreau plays 30 games in the NhL over 3 seasons and bolts for Europe ?
I would not trade Gaudreau, but it goes both ways.

It's pretty funny when you think about it. People complain for years that the Flames are bad at drafting ... then they land a potential homerun in the 4th round and of course people then throw him into trade proposals.

I shake my head at people that would rather keep all our undersized prospects, because they are in the flames system, rather than trying to trade one or 2 for a big prospect.
I almost hope we keep all our prospects just to see CP realize how small of a team they might have in a couple of years. Throw in the " i want Cammi to re-sign" and the " I love hudler" groups and I have no doubt it will be the smallest team in the NHL.

So good news if you want to see more Reinhart and/or Virtanen.

Sorry for deleting my posts earlier. Some of it was dumb, but the gist being, that if Weisbrod really wanted Gaudreau as a Bruin, and we love him as a prospect being taken in in the fourth round, doesn't it speak at least a bit that Weisbrod can eye something bright on the distant horizon?? The Jankowski pick being similar, if he had his hands hard on that too, I can see why he was let go.
I shouldn't have deleted those posts, but was corrected, as I misremembered Weisbrod having a hand in picking Johnny. Of course, he really wanted him in the fourth round when the Flames selected him. I think he's a keeper and you don't trade this unproven commodity who is such a talent and has kept excelling more, year after year.

Prepare to shake your head at Burke. If he thought our prospects were all that hot he wouldn't have turfed Feaster and Weisbrod.
Also, in the past Burke has traded a top-line winger, a 2nd, and 3rd to move up from 6th overall to 2nd overall. When he sees a piece he wants, he goes out and gets it.

I think it had more to do with not getting enough value for Iginla and especially Bouwmeester. He liked the drafting, for the most part.
