Ferland may have solid north-south speed but isn't "quick" overall.

Think a haglin type guy. Someone to stretch ice on rush and open room for johnny and dman to bring up on the rush

Next year is a big year.
The 2013 draft is going to come to a head, as our 1st round draft picks from that year combined with the other 1st rounders since acquired need to have big seasons.
Monahan was a hit, as 6th overall should be.
Poirier will hopefully be refreshed and come back hard.
Klimchuk had a huge growth year, but ended the season with a concussion.
Shinkaruk fell in the first half, but rebounded in the 2nd half.
Lazar had a rough year, but the org believes in him.
Those guys taking big steps forward really takes the organizational depth to whole new level. Even if a couple of them do it'll be huge.
It's nice when your team hits on a mid-late round gem, like Johnny or Brodie.
The key though is not blowing your 1st and 2nd round picks.
Since the rebuild started the Flames have picked 11 times in the first two rounds (4 drafts).
2013 - Monahan, Poirier, Klimchuk (since added Shink + Lazar)
2014 - Bennett, McDonald, Smith (since added Pollock)
2015 - Andersson, Kylington
2016 - Tkachuk, Dube, Parsons
That's where the meat has to come from.
So with the added guys, that's 14 players from the 1st two rounds of the last 4 drafts. Only 4 of them so far look like they've made it (Monahan, Bennett, Lazar, Tkachuk) and two of those still haven't taken off fully (Bennett, Lazar)
Like I said, next year is huge for the 2013's, and hopefully over the next couple of seasons 3 or 4 more of those guys establish themselves as solid NHLers who can contribute to a winning team. And if anyone else steps up from later rounds, that'll help too.

I just think a guy like that would help the Bennett line more.

Come on down Jordan Weal.
Speedy, young, skilled, UFA (probably $1-1.5 million?), is from Western Canada, and as a bonus he's got a right shot.
Apparently he finished the season looking really good.

So Lias Andersson is rated 4th in their rankings then.

Crazy that the Wild would be looking to trade Brodin. A 23 year old top pairing D man, hard to imagine they wouldn't be looking for a way to keep him over other players.

Right.. But you're thinking strictly of the roster.
The Flames have plenty of prospects and picks on the table with value to offer. It all depends on whether they like who they can pick up in this draft, or if they want to go the Dougie Hamilton route like in 2015 and make a splash.
I'd be inclined to believe that Jankowski, one of the 2013 first rounders, the three promising goalies in stockton, Hickey, Fox, Andersson, Kylington, and Gaudreau-lite Philips are the sorts of prospects that other teams would find attractive. If the Flames want to make a trade, that is.

I think the Flames still have some assets with good value such as guys like Mangiapane.

I would trade Phillips way before I considered trading Mangiapane.

It's either him, Dumba, or Spurgeon (Suter has NMC). Dumba's a year younger, and Spurgeon is still a couple years away from 30.
Of those three, Brodin was third in every statistical category. He was a close third, but still third.

Wouldn't surprise me if he's plan A right now, with Elliott as plan B should Mason choose to re-sign with Philly or go somewhere else.
He wants to be the undisputed starter, and not 1 other team in the league can offer him that right now, so if Treliving offers you'd figure he takes it and runs as long as the offer is a minimum of 3 years x $4 million.

He's #2 on my wish list.
1. Philipp Grubauer
2. Steve Mason
Contract length would be a concern going the UFA route, but I guess we'll find out soon enough!

On the bright side, if Mason ends up being our guy, he usually has some cool masks.

I think Grubauer will end up being Vegas other goalie they keep, with the plan being he takes over for MAF in a couple seasons.
Of course, maybe Vegas leaves Grubauer with Washington in order to take Orlov or Schmidt instead.

If the club sees Grubauer/Raanta as a huge upgrade to Mason/Elliott I think they'll make the push, but if they don't why not keep the assets, settle on a UFA goaltender, and use the trade chips to upgrade their top 4 D
