Even though I'm a pretty big tipper everywhere else I've always felt a bit cheated tipping a tub girl (I still do though). You're right, it's not a lot of effort. Though, the effort is put in for set up and clean up, like everyone else at the bar. Cleaning up a bar at the end of the night is one of the least fun jobs out there, and more physical than you might think.

The biggest reason to just suck it up is so you don't look like a dick, both to her and to anyone else who might be around. Yes, I know it often doesn't matter what others think, but maybe you got buddies around, or even a girl you want to impress.

The argument can always be made that if you aren't prepared to tip on something because it's so expensive to begin with, than maybe you shouldn't be ordering that item in the first place. I don't completely buy into that either, but it shows how how there are many ways to look at the argument. IE, if you can afford a 7 dollar beer (or more likely enough 7 dollar beers to get wasted) you can afford to put a loonie in for each.

I'm sure she's fine with them, provided they thoroughly dry off the beer with a clean towel for each customer, wrap the drink in a clean, dry napkin and only grab bottles/cans which have not been fully submerged in the ice water which is of course made using only bottled water and is changed between each and every customer. Also, ranch dressing.

Every Corona comes with a shot of ranch in it rather than the lime. The Springs1 special as it's known.

Ah, the neverending debate about tipping the beer tub girl. Such a dilemma.

You wouldn't tip on free drinks? Why not? They're still providing you a service

If you tip them in large amounts there's a good chance of getting laid later that evening. It worked for me in the past

Or.... you could save all that tip money for a hooker, if that's your end game

always tip on a daily basis. if you wait to tip at the end of your stay, then only one housekeeper actually gets compensated and may not have always cleaned your room.

tip daily with a note, expressing thanks or any special requests, don't wait til the end.

If I was going to an event with "free" drinks (e.g. company Stampede party), why would I be expected to tip? I assume every establishment that hosts events like this has the usual disclaimer that says "An 18% gratuity will be applied to parties of X or more people". So if I tip my standard 15-20%, wouldn't the servers be receiving gratuities twice? I bet they laugh hysterically at all the suckers who tip on "free" drinks.

I agree and have hosted some of these events.
We usually stipulate that they can't collect tips at all and then make sure to tip the servers properly at the end of the night or via the mandatory 18% gratuity that the establishment tacks onto the bill.
If you are going to an event where you don't have to spend any money it doesn't make sense to expect everyone to show up with 10 loonies in their pocket to tip for each drink. What about the servers who carry food around, they have their hands full and would have to put the tray down to accept the tip?

IMO the tip should be left by the person paying the bill.

You don't tip because you are expected to, you tip to get yourself better service.

When you go to Vegas do you tip the girls that bring around the free drinks at the tables and slots? You get way better service if you do.

Good advice anywhere, as long as you have the same server/bartender.

And if it's a bill at a place you frequent regularly, tip big the first time, same sort of idea.
