It proves that I did a good job that they wanted to keep me and make me not want to quit.

And when talking about the success you've had in life, that's the story you tell?

Your husband (apparently) works to support this lifestyle you have? Why? Are you ridiculously hot?

Do you still work at Dunkin Donuts? What's the hourly wage these days?

Has NOTHING to do with that. You maybe are just lucky or maybe you all don't order modified orders?
Actually, it does. Upscale fine dining establishments have higher standards for their serving staff. They'll either provide their staff with comprehensive etiquette and cuisine training or expect the servers to have already completed a hospitality-type course to gain that knowledge and skillset. Cheap-o chain restaurants will just hire any high school kid they can get, stick a "TRAINEE" button on their shirt and maybe have them shadow one of the more experienced servers for a few shifts before sending them out on their own.

You remind me of a High School/Junior athlete who scored a big goal 20 years ago and can't stop telling everyone about it.

I NEVER EVER ONCE SAID THAT!! I said REDUCE the tip if the service is no-so-great and only stiff if it's horrible.

We have had WORSE service at fine dining. For example, a place where our check was $293 or so for just us(cheapest steak was $89), our waiter took 8-10 minutes to get my first soft drink, 8-10 minutes to get my refill on my soft drink, and MOST IMPORTANTLY FORGOT MY MARGARITA FROM THE BAR WITH *****NO APOLOGY****** and I wasn't mean either. I said "thank you" even when he brought it back, STILL NO SORRY to speak of. No comp either, not even from the manager that came by to ask how our visit was(we didn't call him, he came to us).

So what you are saying is BS!! The COSTS OF THE FOOD MEANS ***********NOTHING***************!! It all has to do with the *{PERSON}* SERVING YOU!! We have had better service at Denny's, IHOP, and Waffle House even and that's cheaper than the other chains like Applebee's, Outback, Etc.

WHY, when I know how *I* would do the job that if I wanted the customer's money, I'D BUST MY BUTT AND THEN SOME FOR THEM, WHY SHOULD I ACT LIKE THEY SHOULD BE LAZY WHEN ***I***** WOULDN'T BE, HUH?

I am not treating people like crap though. If anything, the servers are being JERKS not apologizing the majority of the time they do mistakes, no being considerate such as doodling on the check, bussing a table instead of getting what you asked for such as your check or refill, etc. THOSE people are treating us like crap. It's the OTHER WAY AROUND and YOU KNOW THAT IS THE GOD'S TRUTH!!
If a restaurant is offering refills on soft drinks I'm going to say it's not a 'fine dining' establishment.

I beg to differ.

If her job is to waste her entire life on a completely idle, meaningless cause, she is the employee of the decade.

I think if we can keep at it, we can turn the tide so that we're the ones trolling Springs1.

You weren't even good enough to be a server, which I find to be great. So while you worked so hard at that Donut Store and got your 35 cent raise, Servers made double what you did night after night and continue to do so.

There's not four sides of ranch dressing in that photo, so it's clearly not Springs1.

To be fair, that's not really true.

Of all the posters on this forum, I would have expected you'd have watched Treme and seen that New Orleans has a proud history of haute cuisine.

Not that I expect Springs1 to frequent those kind of establishments, mind you...

One of the best old posts from ol Springy was her anger when the server had to question why she needed 6 sides of ranch with her order.

Springs is clearly loco ... that being said i find the whole premise of tipping obnoxious and confusing.

Why dont we tip the people who wait on us at Old Navy? My wife sends those poor kids back for new colours, sizes, what have you and then leaves all the tried on clothes for them to refold. Surely they make some meagher waiter level wage too, but they dont expect tips.

Why do I have to tip at a buffet but not a fast food chain?

Look, retaurant owners pay your frikking staff a living wage and fire those that offer crap service and spit in clients food. Seems to be pretty much common sense and I have no idea how this entire process got flipped upside down.

What a terrible business to be part of, owner, employee and customer alike.

ps ... sorry to go OT in this thread and talk about the practise of tipping in the industry .. carry on with the epic troll bait fest!

I kinda just want to join a bunch of random message boards, start threads about tipping or mention Springs1 randomly and see what happens.
