The Canadiens, Wings, Leafs etc franchises have managed to endure and thrive despite:

* Not having black in their jerseys.
* Keeping the jersey design pretty stable for decades.


The team can still sell black t-shirts, caps, etc without having black in the jerseys themselves.

All this jersey talk forgets what is maybe the biggest difference between the retro look and the current style: pants. From 1980 to 1994 the Flames had red pants, and ever since it's been black pants, except for the throwbacks.

So yeah, this has the right idea. (Although I'm not a huge fan of that jersey.)

Go back to red pants, and it doesn't matter that much how the stripes go. It will still be a recognizable Flames look.

(As long as they keep some of the yellow. Put too little yellow and we start to look like the Devils. Our third jerseys are pretty much just a Devils jersey (which has been essentially the same for 20+ years) with a Calgary wordmark. That's just stupid.)

That's what I would like as well. The for the home jersey, it shouldn't have a yok at the top. For the alternate it's fine though.

This is what I'd like to see. Black with a red "Flaming C" should be our next alternate. Perhaps with no white whatsoever. Not sure about the flames graphics on the sleeves.

IMHO the most important things...

Bring the white flaming C back.
Don't put white and yellow together - they'll blend into one 'yellowish white' when in small scales or seen from distance.
It's all about contrast.

These are fantastic. Ken King please make these jerseys a reality.

No cream instead of white. It just won't happen. In the NHL where teams must have a home and away helmet (each of which must contrast the opposing team's helmet) it would require getting each helmet manufacturer to produce a cream helmet for a single team. Then there would be the process of ensuring that they all matched colour wise. Most facilities can't guarantee a colour match between different runs of their own production lots let alone match other manufacturers.
