If Edmonton finishes ahead of the Flames in the draft order, I could honestly see Feaster trade up with the team one ahead of the Oilers to A. secure the center they want and B. just to do it.

In terms of NHL players, I think the Flames are stacked with young players after this draft.

1. Baertschi (21)
2. Backlund (24)
3. Brodie (23)
4. Cundari (23)
5. Reinhart (21)
6. Hanowski (23)
7. Bouma (23)
8. Lindholm/Monahan (18)

With the following prospects in the pipeline....

1. Wotherspoon
2. Ramage
3. Gaudreau
4. Jankowski
5. Brossoit
6. Gilles

You add 3 1st round draft picks with one elite player like Monahan/Lindholm and add them to the NHL-ready players the Flames have in their system and they have 8 players READY to play!

After this draft, I think the Flames have a top 5 Youth/Prospects depth chart in the NHL.

In what year was Backlund "a beast" and Lindholm likely would be a "beast" if he played in the tournament next year as a 19 year old.

Sounds like a player Edmonton would be interested in at #5 or so ...

You could be right. Feaster seems to have a genuine hate for the oilers, too bad he pissed Colorado off because they could have been good partners at the draft.

Heres something to think about, what if... flames win the lottery, do we take Jones? Mackinnon? do we trade the pick?

Wow there is really going to be a huge upside to finishing even one spot lower than 7th. Not just more options for drafting but also for trading up / down.

We dont have any real stud D men outside of Brodie who still probably is only a number 2 guy at best so I wouldn't be upset if they did take Jones.

I read on TSN he is going to be represented by Jay-Z's Roc Nation though lol thats kind of different.

The only way you trade that pick is if #3 offers you something great to move down to 3rd, otherwise you keep it.

I'd definitely hope they look to see what Colorado is offering for it. If they're willing to give up the 32nd, I'd take it and run. Worst case scenario is the Panthers take MacKinnon and the Flames have to decide between Barkov and Drouin. But there's a decent chance that the Panthers with a center like Huberdeau already in the system and playing well they might look at winger help in Drouin.

He's a winger.

Can play both but I think his preference is as a left winger, and that is where he has played in Florida for most of the season.

He can play center, but he's been a winger for most of his career and has been a winger in his rookie season.

Regardless of where Huberdeau plays, FLA is pretty loaded at center with Bjugstad, Matthias, Shore, Weiss. With Goc, Fleishman, Mueller playing the position in the NHL as well. If they don't get Jones I could see them taking Drouin.

Yeah some good points,

If this scenario plays out, I would hope the flames look at trading the pick to any of the say 4 teams that want Jones. And yeah I to am not completely sold on Jones, and hell, I'd rather have mackinnon, drouin, barkov before Jones.

^^ I'm a huge huge fan of Horvat and it would be great to pick up all those players in the first round, but if we get rid of ALL our vets and replace them with 17-19 year olds we will become Oilers 2.0 and I don't think thats the way to do it. Our team needs Gio/Cammy/Stajan next year to shoulder the load and shelter the n00bs.
