My mother reminded me once in my early 20's that as a 3 year old I thought thunder was just God bowling and making strikes.

I remember being told by an authoritative figure that interracial babies will always have something wrong with them; a severe lack of intelligence or a physical deformity. Then we moved to Canada, and I realized that all the girls here are white so I came to the conclusion that I wasn't going to be able to have kids.

Don't ever listen to anybody in a third world country.

1) I believed that every time you had sex it resulted in a baby (even though I didn't really know what sex was)

2) My mom had a skin tag that seemed like it was barely attached. I once asked my mom what would happen if I pulled it off. Without hesitation and with a straight face she said "I would die". So, I was very careful around my mom for at least a couple years.

Also, I believed that being noble and ethical would make people respect you and make you successful and that the converse was also true.

It was the south shore of Nova Scotia mid 90's.

But even in my high school of 1,500+ in Lethbridge, I could count the number of black people on one hand. By senior year... 2 hands.

###ayjays

A va-jay-jays...hmmm I think you started something, although it sounds something like a baseball hat.

Crazy, I grew up in Cape Breton,Nova Scotia long before that and while are little island was majority white in the 70's I certainly knew I wasn't the only color in town..If I did forget my hockey teamates would remind me in a hurry of my disgression!

By south shore of Nova Scotia you must mean like Yarmouth or what? little towns like Barrington?...zero chance they were behind the Cape Breton times IMO.white ,yellow,red,black...whatever....all the same even in those days.

Hockey related: I didn't understand penalty killing. My best guess, and I didn't truly believe this, but it was my best guess and my parents weren't huge hockey fans so they couldn't correct me, was that you could accelerate the amount of time your man off took in punishment by behaving better.

I remember asking, 'why do they call it penalty killing'? Calgary is doing a great job at killing the penalty. Do they take time off?

Sort of the parole/court system applied to hockey, lol. You could KILL OFF the penalty.

In order to get me to pay more attention around roads, my mother told me that there were invisible cars that could run me over. I had to listen carefully for and look really hard to make sure I didn't see the wavy lines above the road that indicated them. That one had me suckered for years.

I remember when I thought ass was a swear word for dick.

I assumed kicking someone's ass was a nutshot and probably led me to confusing a lot of people when I would insult others by saying things like "you must be a girl cause you don't have an ass."

I was, like, didn't we just have a thread like this? Turns out it was 2008.

*very messed up sense of time*

I'll repeat mine from that thread. I was born on the first Monday of September. Until Grade 6 I believed my parents when they said Labour Day was so called because that's the day Mom went into labour.

I was also told that "The Who" and "The Guess Who" were the same band.... they just changed their name.

When I was 4 or so, I thought that people on TV could see me.

I used to think that the whole world used to be black and white; not just TV and movies. Then at some point somebody "invented" colours.

Up until I was about 8 years old, my grandpa told me that he fought the dinosaurs. They had to tell me the truth when I went to school and started bragging to my classmates about it. Let me tell ya, I was more shattered about that than I was with Santa, the tooth fairy, etc.

I thought the value of coins was directly related to size of the coin. My uncle would trade me nickles for dimes.
