What no Turkey buns with Ketchup and S&P fans out there? Best part of my thanksgivings and Xmas.

When no Turkey available
seven grain bread
Tomatoe
Cucumber
Cheese
Blackforest ham

Call me old fashioned but there's nothing better than a grilled ham and cheese sandwhich. Start with 2 thick slices of sourdough bread, 2 slices of monterey jack cheese, and a slice of deli honey ham.

my old roomate used to make grilled cheese with havarti, bacon, hot sauce, mayo, and cheddar.

totally amazing.

too bad he was a total maniac otherwise!

Why don't homemade sammiches taste as good as the ones you get at a deli or sandwich shop?

there's a place on 8th street between 11th and 10th ave SW downtown whose name escapes me, they make an awesome sandwich - it's the style that's pressed and grilled, can't remember - italian name.

decent prices and good coffee as well.

Here in England this is what passes for a good sandwich:

Stottie roll (sort of a sour-dough roll)
brown sauce (like HP sauce)
LOTS of bacon.

BANG.

OMG I remember those GMAC sandwiches..and they give you pickles and chips with it too! Brings back memories. Yeah those turkey sandwiches were awesome....and the sandwiches were very filling! Couldn't agree with you more about them being the best in the city in terms of sandwiches.

In San Jose, my vote goes to either Whole Foods or Zanatto's.

I love UK toasties, another favourite over there. Not much to them really but they are ubiquitous and usually the cheapest things on the menu. Maybe I just love them because they don't cost 4 pounds or more.

In urban Australia your typical sandwich is as follows:

Turkish bread
avocado
tomahto
grilled chicken
salt & pepper
maybe some rocket if they are trying to be pretentious

In rural Australia it is as follows:

damper
animal (any)

Light Rye bread (toasted)
Dijon Mustard
Jalapenos and/or Banana peppers
1 dill pickle sliced 3 times vertically
Organic field greens
thin sliced deli turkey

And to add another one.....the best sandwich in the world that takes almost no effort to make is toasted rye bread with a little bit of mustard and some deli cut roast beef......dammit I could eat 10 of those everyday!

Right now, I'm doing the low-carbs thing, so I can't eat bread, ive been putting my sandwiches in a big leaf of lettuce. IT SUCKS!!!!! But, for the purpose of the thread

Cheese Roll
Mayo
Mustard
Pickle
Red Onion
Lettuce
Tomato
Turkey
Bacon
A shot of Ranch......Ranch is good on anything.

Weird sandwiches that I love.....I haven't made it in about 4 years, but Peanut butter with a crap load of chocolate chips....TOASTED....OH MY GOD, I want one now.

1)Hat Trick Sandwich:
A round loaf, I prefer Pumpernickle
Cut the top and pull out a lot of the insides.
Place Roast Beef in there.
In a bowl mix diced cheddar, diced Tomato, cut mushrooms, Mayo and a dash of garlic powder.
Scoop that mixture into the loaf.
Bake 30 min. @ 375.

2)Brown Bread or whatever you prefer
Sliced Avocado
Shrimp
Sprouts
Mayo.

My favorite sandwich is a meatball sandwich. I am suprised that nobody mentioned them. But they have to be made on a crusy bread with tomato sauce. Also I will use left over meatloaf. Same thing but either one I cannot get enough of.
The meatball sub is about the only one that I can handle from subway. I am really not a fan of the processed meats. I have bought them to many times from places like Safeway and got sick from them.
