Try this stuff....I used to feel the exact same way but this stuff is godly. Ultimate Nutrition Chocolate Truffle flavor. It is amazing with skim milk and still VERY good with just water (how I usually drink it). It actually tastes very similar to chocolate milk, mixed just with water. I bought a 6.6lb bucket and have it for breakfast most mornings.
So much better than the dry, powerbar-tasting, disgusting-with-water powders i'd had previously. Highly recommend.

Not true. People drink goats milk here. In other cultures people drink milk from different animals like horses etc..
As for chocolate milk being better for you than regular milk? Cmon, its just regular milk with a bunch of sugar and chemicals in it. Yes it has more carbs, but that's like saying sugar = energy, so we should all eat a bunch of sugary snacks if we exercise.
I'm guessing you are still a teenager or in your early twenties and do not have to worry about putting on pounds, but wait until you are in your mid to late twenties to tell me chocolate milk is superior.
If you are looking for extra carbs to fuel yourself why not eat something healthy like oats, yams, or full grain pasta. Chocolate milk is borderline junk food.

Anyone who thinks its enough to drink chocolate milk after their workout are kidding themselves. If you do heavy lifting without taking A LOT of proteins (amino acids in right dosages) immediately, you are damaging your muscle. Milk colored with chemicals is not going to cut it.

See, people are automatically assuming that drinking chocolate milk by itself, after a workout, is what I'm suggesting.
I drink it 30 min after a workout, and than eat 30-45 min after that.

Ah, yes.....I was just responding to the poster who suggested milk was meant for calves, not for human beings.

Well, 11-20g of sugar in 500mL of chocolate milk isn't a 'bunch' to me. Of course, I don't drink the premade stuff, but mix it myself.
Plus, the Nesquik stuff is a lot better than the chocolate milk you buy at 7-11.

See, those 333 calories shouldn't be making a difference, one way or the other.

Because it works for me. And I'll continue using it just as long as it continues working for me.

And yet, chocolate milk is anywhere from 1/2-1/10 the price, depending on if you buy pre-maid stuff or not.....and it works BETTER, IMO.
|
I wasn't talking about lactose intolerant. Milk as a food source is not all it's advertised to be. Milk is getting linked to more and more intestinal track disorders (Crohns, Colitus, IBS, etc). Could be the amount of steroids and hormones that end up in the milk due to dairy farming practices, but it could also be that adult mammals really arn't setup to digest milk fat and protein (reduction in the enzyme that babies have apparently).
This is heresay though, so correct me if I'm wrong. All I know is that I can drink skim milk most of the time, but if I start drinking anything higher then 1% regularily, my stomach doesn't like me very much.
There has to be better things to consume after a work out then milk...

Each to his own.
A few of the studies that were done.....to backup my claims, or the claim that the website is making...
Quote:
Milk-based proteins promote muscle protein accretion to a greater extent than do soy-based proteins when consumed after resistance exercise. The consumption of either milk or soy protein with resistance training promotes muscle mass maintenance and gains, but chronic consumption of milk proteins after resistance exercise likely supports a more rapid lean mass accrual.

Quote:
We conclude that chronic postexercise consumption of milk promotes greater hypertrophy during the early stages of resistance training in novice weightlifters when compared with isoenergetic soy or carbohydrate consumption.

Fascinating stuff, really.

Milk is meant for calves to grow into cows. Not for humans to grow into cows.
You don't really think the purpose of these ads are for OUR benefit do you?
Just like every thing in our damned society, it boils down to $$$, point blank. Good luck with that.
|
That's true, many people don't realize that the got milk ads are very much dairy lobby funded and motivated. The dairy industry is very protective and powerful. Even until last year, it was illegal to have yellow margarine in Quebec. It's not a public service ad. It's a freaking commercial with highly paid athletes and celebrities.

I am 32 years old and have lost about 50 lbs in 5 months eatting a balanced diet that includes (among many other things) a peanut butter, banana, chocolate milk shake for breakfast 2-3 times a week.
If you drink a liter of it at a time, yeah you gonna get fat. There is probably 2+ meals worth of calories in a liter of chocolate milk. However, anything not taken in moderation will do the exact same thing.
Edit: My grandmother has been trying to tell me that milk is not important for my entire life. That almost every study out there that says drink milk is funded by people who sell milk. She does say however that you need to have your calcium from somewhere.

I'm not going to get into this.
I've been using chocolate milk as part of my PWO routine for almost 6 months now. To me, it works good.....and I find it interesting that people are now doing studies of some sort to try and find out if it does actually work.
The only reason I started using it was because I randomly looked at the nutritional information on both Nesquik and 2% milk, and figured that it might work as a good PWO drink.
And it has....far better than I ever expected.

I've always been a big fan of milk. I'm not sure why though but when we lived in Calgary the milk really bothered my stomach. But here on the East coast it doesn't. It's way more expensive here though. We're paying about $7.75 for a 4 liter jug. Pretty much double what I remember paying out west.

It doesnt seem like anyone has anything better to do than take my money these days, hell, I think 'taking Locke's money' is actually edging out soccer as Nigeria's national sport.
