No way Johnny gets 10. That's a ridiculous number. He has one top 10 finish under his belt and it wasn't even top 5.

One.

You know how many players have had one or two top 10 seasons?

There's a reason those two are on a local AM radio show....

I like Johnny but anything over 7.75 seems a little high.

He's definitely not Patrick Kane but would love to see him ramp up yearly like Kane .....Kanes numbers last year were insane.

He should get 10m for each UFA year and 7m for each RFA year IMO.

8 year deal

5 x 7m = 35m
3 x 10m = 30m

8 years $65m for a $8.125m cap hit is what I think it will come in at.

I don't think it's that he will get 10, it's that, as one of the best hockey players in the world, an argument can be made for that.

Now, as you noted, he did it for one year (following a tremendous rookie season).

This is the exact argument going on between the sides. I don't think it's ludicrous to think that the first number out of Gaudreau's agent's mouth was "10". Just like BTs first number was probably "6". Both are equally out to lunch, but not without arguments for. Which is why you would start there.

Almost no one gets $7M for RFA years.

And he hasn't done enough to justify $10M for the UFA years.

Sure you can start there in negotiations but for Warner and co. to suggest that is what it's going to take is nuts.

In his current best season he wasn't even a top 5 forward. You don't give out massive contracts like that based one great but not even top 5 season. If 10 is the number Johnny wants then it's going to be a bridge.

He's played two seasons.

Two.

You know how many players have been top ten for half their career?

(Translation: numbers are fun!)

What do you think he should get for 8 years?

He should be getting Tarasenko money and that is 7.5/year.

He's a good comparable but I think they will have to up that to compensate for playing in Canada so far from home for the bulk of his career. It's not like Tarasenko has NHL options close to home like Johnny does.

True. And then the term. For 7.5, the Flames probably want him long term. For 7.5, maybe Gaudreau's camp wants a short term deal so he can increase his future earning potential. And round and round we go.

And that's probably a major sticking point for either side. Gaudreau side pushing for that amount due to point totals, the Flames are pushing back for less due to only one season and that point total and not hitting the 40 goals Tarasenko did.

I completely agree with this. There is a "tax" so to speak that players can charge for playing in Canada. To keep top tier talent up here, there is a premium cost.

He wasn't top 10 in scoring in his first season. He wasn't even top 20.

Numbers are fun, hey.

Could make a much better case for Tarasenko being in the driver seat, not Gaudreau. Seeing as Tarasenko is not only is much farther from home (and actually has to deal with cultural shock) but he actually had the ability to simple walk away from the organization and go back home for loads more than what he is getting paid. It's no secret that Doug Armstrong was willing to cave-in quickly to keep Tarasenko from threatening to head back to the KHL.

Gaudreau does not have an option to go back East anytime soon without the Flames making a trade.

"Half" = 50% = 0.5

Number of played seasons: 2
Number of seasons in top ten: 1

1 top ten season divided by 2 played seasons = 1 / 2
1 / 2 = 0.5

0.5 = 50% = "half"

(This is where numbers start to get boring. )
