He's our best player. Face of the franchise. Why would you insult him with low ball offers? If you don't want to pay him what he's worth, trade him to somebody who will. This is starting to get embarrassing.

Jesus, just stop already, we get it.

It's a low ball if that's where they are stopping, which is where we are currently at according to Francis.

I'll point out that the mid points between 6.5 and 8 is... 7.25. You get him for 7.25 on an 8 year term, that's pretty much dead on value wise. It will all come down to term, and I would suspect the agent isn't budging much off his ask at the moment.

Well you kind of brought it up. So basically you never believe what any reporter says ever? Sometimes they're right sometimes they're wrong?

Wow man. Pump the brakes.
What proof do you have of low ball offers?
Seriously. What proof?
There is a huge disconnect between what is being reported and how you spin it. So back up your perspective with something tangible.

If you were going to give him a UFA payday, he'd be looking at 9M+. 7.5-8 is in line with comps. 6.5 is an insult.

And on the flip side it's dumb of Johnny's agent if they're stopping at $8M+. Both are holding at equally untenable positions. Come on, take the one sided blinders off.
And the end result probably lies somewhere in the middle. Sounds like a negotiation.

I'm going off of the Francis article, obviously. He's been pretty in tune with signings. Millions also mentioned the Gio cap. It's enough to make me believe it's really a thing.

8M is closer to his inflation adjusted market comps than 6.5

Yeah, but it's past the first week of September and training camps are about to start. The negotiators should've long since started already.

I'm actually curious. Who is a comparable player who got 8 mil a year for a long term contract with 5 RFA years? Tarasenko got 7.5 and he only had 4 RFA years.

Honestly, if he isn't involved with Lewis Gross or his agency I would pretty nervous. The obsession and one-sidedness he's shown towards Gaudreau is downright creepy.

Man, that's really specific. Hold on a moment.
Edit: Evgeni Malkin, back in 2009, signed a five-year deal at age 22 -- heading into his age 23 season, same as Gaudreau -- which took up 5 RFA years. Malkin was obviously better than Gaudreau for their respective ages -- Geno was coming off a 112-point season, and was more proven (Stanley Cup, Art Ross, Conn Smythe, etc...) -- but it's the closest non-Tarasenko deal I can find for your exact criteria. Was for $8.7 million a season under a $58.6 million cap.

This is going to be fun to read again when Johnny signs and we praise Brad for yet another steal contract.
