Nice move by Ottawa, he'll be money playing with Spezza!

Clears cap space for Anaheim as well, I feel like Grabovski to Anaheim might be in the works.

Overpayment by OTT. ANA has been trying to trade Ryan for years.

good trade for both teams

Ottawa is in a position to do this: trade several prospects for the top line guy.

Hopefully in 3 years we are in the same boat. Not right now though.

If the Ducks were ever going to accept less than that the trade would have been done years ago.

That's not an easy division and they need to finish top 4 to make the playoffs.

Boston and Detroit will be the class of the Division, Montreal won the division last year, and Tampa Bay and Toronto won't be pushovers.

Plus they lost Alfredsson who was their heart and soul, and Gonchar who was a big piece is gone and hasn't been replaced.
Take them out and add spezza, karlsson, Cowan, michalek ( all injured the majority of last season). Best goalie tandem in the NHL, I like there chances of making the playoffs.

Oh yeah now add Bobby Ryan...

highway robbery by Sens. 2 nobody plus a late first round pick does not equal Bobby Ryan.

You just watch! meh, we'll see.

It all boils down to goaltending and I don't have the faith in Craig Andersson being a consistent #1 guy. Their back up (at his age) is a total wildcard too.

Hope they do well and if I'm right I won't bump the thread patting myself on the back... but it'll be fun to see them win the Presidents trophy and see how quickly this gets bumped.

Silfverberg was a very up and comming young player. He has huge potential and was beginning to realize it. HF boards has him ranked one position behind Saad, at #30. Noesen was a recent 1st round pick. Who says the Sens pick will be late?

It was a big package Ottawa gave up, but they got a big player back. If Ryan doesn't re-sign Ottawa gets boned in a big way.

so basically Ottawa got Ryan 26 years old 4 30 goal seasons in a row for Backlund, #22 and #28. And the #28 (Noesen) has not progressed in juniors for 2 years.

PS. This is an absolute steal for Ottawa. Without the Cap in place and Ottawa being careful cap managers this trade never happens.

Anaheim went from finishing #3 in the league to re-building. Getzlaff and Perry will have their $8M + and be fighting for a playoff spot.... but they are re-building from the top and trying to load up on prospects.

Minnesota is in the same situation with Parise, Suter and Koviu taking a huge % of the cap and Ballard being their #3 D-man. The future is now for Nino and Grandlund or Minnesota is going to be very disappointed. Last year they barely made the playoffs and they had to give away Setigouchi (replaced by Nino N?) who has been a legit top 6 and forward Cullen walks along with Clutterbuck . Their supporting cast of players is not getting stronger.

Pittsburgh isn't going to be any stronger then they were at the end of last year. Malkin, Crosby and next year Letang means that they will have some AHL guys filling in teh bottom half of their line-up.

wow I love the ducks depth up front going forward. Etem Palmieri Noeson (possibly a very good draft pick). And they have a few-up-and-coming blue-liners.
And silverburg, hes young big fast and can shoot... sounds great to me
