Agreed.

I just looked at the barn burner thread and on the very last page:

“I was 100% fine with what he said between periods”

Not trying to call anybody out just saying it’s not that shocking that Maloney himself saw no issue. I’m sure he found some people to tell him it was just fine.

We need draft picks, plenty of draft picks.
Yeah exactly! I trust Flames scouts more than almost any other NHL team’s.

Don’t give us your pick after you have already ruined them. We need more Gridins!

It’s not actually about what he said, but about the reaction to it and the decision to double down after to which any competent PR person would have easily raised a red flag.

Does this mean stepping in to clean up the article reaction?

Or stepped in it ... meaning this was his idea to send Maloney out?

If Hanlon's stepping in to help messaging, Flames on HNIC tonight is a good opportunity to get some info to Friedman. It will be interesting to see what he has to say about this tonight.

Can’t build exclusively through the draft. Especially when you are not likely getting top 5 picks that are difference makers. Need to also build through trades and free agency. The latter when we are further along in our development.

Need to find players in their early/mid 20s that haven’t popped in their current environment. We didn’t draft iginla, we traded for him. I am in no ways comparing Grieg to iginla, have to be clear on that. But if we can find players with high ceilings that aren’t working out and need a change in scenery, hope we are exploring that. Yes, we need draft picks but there’s other ways to acquire good talent.

I suspect they saw the reaction and told him to go out and fix it. When you are told to go fix something you don't think was bad you do a half assed job or often dig yourself deeper.

Wish list :

Rasmus to Dallas.
Kadri to Montreal. (And then hire him back as a coach, later)
Coleman to NYR

Spend middle value capital on :

Hendrix Lapierre in Washington.
Alex Turcotte in LA.

Might as well give them a shot on a top 9 center line, as they are both buried on teams 4th, with no path to playing time. Both have great pedigree in minors, AHL and national teams. (In anticipation of this awesome move, I've picked up both players in the CP league!)

Turcotte is a year younger than Farabee, they might have some chemistry on a line. He has not shown anything in the AHL or the NHL so he should come cheap.
