Default Drain in furnance/utility room

I want to set up a portable sink in my utility room and drain it into the floor drain. This sink would be used for wine making. I've only ever used this drain for the overflow from my humidifier. Will the floor drain accept a free flow of water without over flowing from rinsing and such from making wine?

It should be tied into the city storm sewer system with a flow-back preventer.

There is a way to check the flow-back thing and we should all make sure it's working.

Anyone know how to check these ? Mine is just a grate on the floor ?

^^i agree - it should be fine

i know when we built our place 5 years ago that all the floor drains in our crawl space are tied into the sewer. all the black piping in the dirt are the floor drains. see below...

as for checking the flow-back - sorry - i can't help you there

I'm probably wrong, but I think floor drains are tied into the Sanitary Sewer system. There is a P-Trap to keep the sewer gases from seeping up into the living space.
If it was me, I'd plan on breaking the concrete out around the floor drain, and tying in a proper Y connection below the floor level, as the 'run off' out of your sink may never fully make it through the gooseneck, and begin to stink up your basement.

When you're done, mix up some bags of redimix, and patch the busted concrete. The whole thing isn't that hard. Breaking concrete is easy, after you have punched your way through to the gravel. You just keep undermining the slab, and it breaks easy with a 8 lb sledge.

Looks like it can go either way.

Doesn't your basement have a ruffed in pipe you could pull a plug out of when needed ?

The floor drain seems like a last resort, where does your washing machine drain ?

I hkonestly don't know if there is a roughed in pipe to drain to. I'll check tonight. Good idea; it never occurred to me. My washing machine is in a different location in the house.
