I don't get the fascination with floating down the river. My friends started doing it 5 years ago and now everyone seems to do it. I figured people would be more careful after those 2 guys from Quebec got killed. Taking a baby in a rubber raft down the bow in spring runoff is about as stupid as you can get.

I was wading across Threepoint Creek with a bike on my back on Sunday morning and my legs were pretty much paralyzed inside of a minute . . . . . I think it's still a little too frigid to be sporting around on our Alberta rivers just yet!!!

And a baby? That's child endangerment.

These idiots should be charged with child endangerment.

If one member of your party could drown in a pail of water, the Bow river may not be an optimal place to be.

What a bunch of morons. Why you would put your baby in that situation is beyond me. Thank god nothing more serious happened.

This makes me shake my head, but for another reason entirely:

How do you capsize a raft in a river you can wade across bank-to-bank anywhere in Calgary?

Maybe the elbow river, but I don't think you could do that in the Bow.

It probably sounded like a romantic idea to the both of them at the time. Hindsight is the only way they can truly realize the folly of their ways.

Would we be saying anything if nothing had happened?

I can see it being romantic if it was just the parents, but as soon as you throw kids into the equation the romantic factor goes right out the window.

Those guys from Quebec (I thought there was just one...) were idiots. They deserved their Darwin award. You don't need to speak English to understand big huge signs with skulls and crossbones, followed by pictures of stickmen drowning in a cycling current.
