iPhone 1.1.3 unlock?
In just over a weeks time I'll be heading down to Vegas and I would like to buy an iPhone. Apple just came out with the new 16GB iPhone and I would prefer to get that one. As icarus pointed out to me the new iPhone has the firmware 1.1.3. I've done some searching and reading about it and I don't understand what they are talking about. Bricking, jailbreaking to previous firmwares...wah?
If I buy an iPhone firmware 1.1.3 will I be able to unlock it and use it on Rogers?
EDIT: Should be in the Tech Forum, thanks.

hey burninator, i'd be interested in knowing how easy it was for you to unlock it with those instructions, i'm thinking of getting one too, started reading them but didn't quite finish it, if you wouldn't mind posting or pm me letting me know, that'd be great, thanks!

The apple store was out of the 16GB models so I picked up an 8GB model.
The firmware was 1.1.2 so I updated through iTunes to the newest firmware (1.1.3.). I used ZiPhone to activate it, jailbreak it, and unlock it. It was super easy. The only downside was is it doesn't seem to work on Vista. So I just used it on a XP computer. The only steps involved are running iTunes, plugging in your iPhone, running the program, and clicking the button you want the program to do (in my case, activate, jailbreak and unlock). Took about 5 minutes of the program running and my iPhone was completely operational. Couldn't have been easier.
Also I am loving the iPhone, it's great.

yea I just got one too, unlocked it with ZiPhone, everything works, wi-fi, youtube, the phone. I heard there is a chance that if you do unlock it, your wi-fi just stops working and doesnt show up anymore so be carefull and follow each step.

I'm wondering if I can upgrade my 1.1.1 firmware to 1.1.3 and keep it unlocked. Looks like the iJailbreak program that only works on Mac's can do that.

ZiPhone is a free program. When I was looking at unlocking my iPhone I didn't find any programs that had a cost attached to them.

Well mine was 1.1.2 and I updated to 1.1.3 through iTunes and then used ZiPhone and it worked for me. So it would probably work for you, but I can't say for sure.

thats exactly what I did so you should have no problem.
Another question, im using Apollo for MSN but it doesnt seem to work. My friend with an iPhone said they were having problems with the MSN feature. Do you have a app that uses MSN?

What worries me is that my 1.1.1 is already unlocked. So I might brick the phone if I update to 1.1.3. Apparently the other program for Mac can do it, but I'll wait for my friend with a mac to try it out and see if it works.

I think mine is turned off.. but that might be one of those things required for the unlocking process.
