The Pittsburgh Penguins Trade Report: After a promising run to the cup finals this past season, the Pens have decided to keep their core group together and build from there. However that being said the Pens are always open to trade any player on the roster if the price is right. Here is a list of who are/are not being shopped, and what the price tag is.
Cheapy Cheapy- Chad Kilger – can be had for a 5th round pick if you think he can help your club. We have no room to bring him back to our team so if he can help you, come get him. WAIVED
- Richard Park- Same as Kilger TRADED
Available- Martin Gelinas- was great for us down the stretch and in the playoffs. Still putting up great 3rd line numbers in the NHL. Is a great PK man and can help any team looking to get to the next level.
- Scott Nichol – Cheap depth player for the 4th line, would want the same type of player in return or a prospect.
- Martin Straka – Still a PPG player in the NHL and a monster in the sim, he can be moved but I would need someone back who can replace his offense.TRADED
- Jamie Heward- very cheap and versatile player who can play any position on the ice. I would want a cheap depth guy back or a pick(s)/prospect(s) type of deal.
- Brian Willsie- See Gelinas
- Francis Bouillon – solid defensive dman with some grit and a good contract, would move him for a younger guy with some upside.
- Sami Kapanen- Very versatile player who plays a great 2 way game and can play any position on the ice. One of the best skaters in the NHL. Can be had for the right package of youth. TRADED
- Martin Gerber – After a slow NHL start he caught fire and if it was not for Ray Emery’s stellar play would have easily regained his #1 status. Very similar to Biron’s situation in Buffalo before he was traded. Gerber finished the NHL season with the exact same GAA and save % that made him one of the top goalies in the NHL in Carolina. Would make a solid #1 for anyone needing help between the pipes.TRADED
In the Pens plans but can be moved
1.
Jason Spezza – Probably the least likely player to be moved off the Pens. Spezza was arguably the best player in the entire CPHL last season potting 48 goals, and is becoming a legitimate superstar in the NHL. It would take something that really blew me away to even think about moving Spezza.
2.
Saku Koivu – Koivu has a NTC combined with his chemistry with Spezza, his career year in the NHL, and the fact he is one of my favorite players it is very unlikely Koivu goes anywhere.
3.
Mikael Samuelsson- Probably the biggest bargain in the entire CPHL. It would be hard to move Samuelsson given what he brings to the table for his salary.
4.
Christopher Higgins- Turning into a solid two-way player that can finish his scoring chances as well as his checks. I am a huge Higgins fan, unlikely he moves.
5.
David Vyborny – Coming off back-to-back NHL campaigns of leading the Jackets in Points and really coming into his own in the CPHL as well, it is unlikely that we will move David unless a similar player with a similar contract comes back.
6.
Steve Begin- Solid energy player and signed for just above league minimum, Begin will likely stay around for financial reasons.
7.
Milan Hejduk- Best pure goal scorer on the Pens and still a force in the NHL, it will take someone with star power and a nice contract coming back our way to move Milan.
8.
Dainius Zubrus – He is a power forward that our roster lacks, and his big bodied presence plus his ability to perform in the NHL and CPHL makes him a huge part of our team.
TRADED
9.
Chris Chelios – Chelly has been a part of our team for a longtime and the ageless wonder seems to be prepared to play until he is 50. For the contract he has and the intangibles he brings it is unlikely that we move Chris.
10.
Rostislav Klesla- Rusty looks to be the future of our defense. It will take a promising young defender coming back to make us want to move him.
11.
Andrei Markov- One of the most underrated defensemen in the NHL, Andrei is a great 2 -way player and a personal favorite, given his contract he will be a hard guy for me to move.
12.
Brian Rafalski – Brian is a true #1 defender and is signed up to a great contract, he will not be leaving Pittsburgh unless another #1 dman comes back.
13.
Greg Zanon- Zanon burst on the scene this past NHL season and became a regular in a solid Nashville defensive corps. Given his age and contract I would need a similar young dman with a promising upside to move him.
14.
Olaf Kolzig – Ollie the goalie is revitalized with all the youth he is surrounded by in Washington. He is playing like a man in his prime in both the NHL and CPHL and after leading the Pens to the finals it is unlikely that he goes anywhere.
Prospects:
It is very unlikely that Carey Price or Nicklas Backstrom will be going anywhere. All other prospects can be had for a similar guy.
