Default Gift Exchange Ideas

I hate this.

I have a couple of company gift exchanges this year. So the first was last night, 40 buck limit. Lots of fun. Most of the gifts were good (I myself scored a bottle of Baileys - can't go wrong there). Its a good amount of money to get something decent but not extravagent.

But on Monday I have another one where the limit is 10 bucks

10 buck! WDF can I buy that's 10 bucks? I don't want to get something that's a joke or just lame...I want something that someone will actually like. But I can't think of anything apart from chocolate (LAME).

Ideas?

Gift Certificate to Starbucks or Tim Horton's? You're not gonna get much for 10 bucks these days.

If someone these days limits things to ten bucks, then they should expect that the presents will be of the "silly" nature, since it is silly to expect anything but that for ten bucks.

So get a flashlight or a screwdriver!!!

The weird thing is that the limit was 20 bucks - which is a workable amount. But then suddenly an email comes down the chute today from the powers that be that its been reduced to 10. Which means someone probably complained about the amount which just blows my mind.

Some good ideas so far though. Thanks guys

Well, if you want to go serious and if you think everyone will, then buy a book or something, u can still get a pretty good paperback for that price. You can also get a wee small bag of Callebault chocolates.

The silly $10 gift idea can be fun, I have gone to them, and they are done with the gift trading concept. You can trade for any one gift 3 times, then you you have to keep what you get.

Another idea that is always fun, and is a great way to get rid of those worst xmas presents you ever receieved is "the tackiest gift" exchange. You can not buy something new. The idea is to go thru your junk and wrap it up for exchange. Only thing here is, make sure you dont wrap up last years tacky present to give this year. Too many people will still remember from last year. So give it a 5 year recycle date. And dont give the worst present you ever received back to the person you received it from, that is just a bit too tacky)) You can also do these parties on themes, like perhaps the tackiest present from the 90's era.

We do this every year with my wife's family. We've seen liquour filled chocolates, screw drivers, beanie babies, candles, christmas decorations, underwear (re-gifted 3 years running and the same person winds up with it).

I usually buy over the limit myself - it is always easier.

But ~$10 gifts

Wine
DVDs (older ones)
Six pack of beer
Books

Ha.

Well on a serious note, I say a 10 buck gift certificate somewhere - the Tim Hortons/2nd Cup/Starbucks is a good idea. But maybe a HMV or something (that way a CD or whatever only costs them 5 - 10 bucks).

The flashlight and screwdriver are good ideas...the flashlight especially if you are out here on the east coast, as the power likes to go out for really no apparent reason....
